Oh, I love these - I bought one about 3 years ago, I was told they would multiply! It didn't, finally this year it had one puney bloom! I have been looking everywhere locally for more bulbs, they just seem to carry the non-hardy Florist type.

hi,
these are just gorgeous, arent they? i've recently got a tiny pot to put on my window ledge. they're a joy to behold, esp when they just bloom overnight. but unfortunately, for reason unapparent, the new buds just started blackening & softening before wilting away. it started with new growths, then went on to affect the bigger buds. which upsets me immensely. at the same time, there are still flowers. now, im left to my last bloom with no more new growth. the leaves are perfectly all right though. ive checked for insects, i fertilise once a week. really dont know what's wrong.

can you share some thoughts?? i'd so appreciate it.

Could be a number of things. The blackening is likely to be a fungal infection, remove all affected parts and (preferably) burn them, don't compost them.

Cyclamen differ depending on species as to cultivation, however, an 'indoor' Cyclamen which is usually a C. persica variety or hybrid, like light shade and a dry, cool room, don't worry they can cope with temps down to 52F but not much more than 75F. They all like well drained soil and should be watered from underneath, i.e. from the saucer. Allow the pot to suck up water until the compost is moist and don't water again until it's quite dry (but not so the plant wilts).

As the flowers are finishing for now, drop off the fertiliser and ease back on the water a bit too. You may yet get another smaller flush of flowers.

thank you, Baa. im watering them from underneath to try. also, i learnt from another person here that we're supposed to keep the bulb (where all the stems emerge from) dry & uncovered, so i believe that is the root of my problems because it gets wet when watered fr above.
