Need some help

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

I have a brug for the first time, and need to overwinter it here in zone 6.
Can I take a cutting from it?
I want to keep it under light all winter do you think that will work?
Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Paul, you can take cuttings off and root them or you can dig the plant up and put it under lights or in a sunny window or you can dig the plant up and put it in a cool dark place and have it go dormant.

Why dont you overwinter the whole plant?

Paul, If you keep the whole plant you will have more flowers next year and a head start on the growing.

Thanks everyone

I would trim it back (above the Y) just enough to get a few hardwood cuttings to start and grow under lights this winter. And then, if I had space, I would take the brug inside in a large pot, and store it in the dark in basement to go dormant for the winter....water a little every month so it does not dry out completely. That is what I plan on doing with a couple of mine this winter:)

Owen
Sounds like a plan.
Thanks so much.

How cool can it be for cold storage? This would help me out considerably if I have the right place.

It depends which species? versicolors need warmer temperatures (+12°C or more) other hybrids +5°C - 12°C)

Mine go dormant in basement, only light is a small basement window, water sparingly, temps 50-60.

Thank you. I may be able to winter them over this way. Yahooo

About 55-60 F in my basement too. I keep them almost completely dry and in low light.
