Kinda off-topic here, but---Brugcrazy and I were talking about the S. maxima seedlings she had for trade, and she said she got the seeds from you. Do you have any more, and is there anything I could trade you for some? And do you know how long they take to flower fom seed?
On the brug front, thanks yet again for the cuttings you sent me last fall!!! I'm trying to pay them forward to as many folks as I can.
Hey, Glory!/ Solandra maxima
I have never heard of this one before

Kell, this is a very common plant in Ca., mostly used by people in the Santa Barbara area as fencing material. am surprise u never heard of it. unfortunately i do not have any either... http://www.floridata.com/ref/S/sola_max.cfm
Hi Ma Vie!!! LOL, did you see it said:
Features
The chalice vines are related to the angel trumpets (Datura spp. and Brugmansia spp.), and like them, have hallucinogenic properties. They are used in sacred ceremonies in Mexico.
Have not seen you lately. All OK?
i was here everynight. busy lurking and learning at the same time LOL!!! more of trying to learn. i see u posting each night and disappear too LOL!!! i did post a few on other forums.
yes the chalice vine i believe is also in the solanaceae family. the only reason why i came to know about it is cause i helped others identify what they had growing in their yard.
I get on so late every night! Wish I could get on earlier!!
i've seen u earlier sometime :)! don't make no difference what time u get here. always nice to catch up and learn.
It gets 30 ft tall!! OMG, where am I going to put it? I have this, thanks to Glory. It hasn't bloomed yet, but that's probably cause I keep chopping on it to make more. It's about 10-12 ft tall right now. Does it bloom in the winter?
Cala - the Logee book says that buds form on the growing tips with decreasing day length. Give them blossom blooming fertilzer with high phosphate levels. During active growth fertilize every 2 weeks. It also says to prune immediately after flowering and DO NOT PRUNE AGAIN! If they're pruned too late they won't bloom at all. Prune them hard enough so the vigorous vine will be a managable size through the growing season. It says in their native habitat these vines can take down trees 10-inches in diameter.
I think the little one you gave me is stunted. It hasn't grown an inch since you were here in July. It's still alive though!
Poppy, seems like mine kind of set there for a while when I first got it.I can send you another, the ones from cuttings are growing, some are a foot tall. I haven't pruned the tops of the main vine in a long time, they are reaching the ceiling of the greenhouse, and have branches at the tips. I will leave it alone now. I just got a big bag of Bloom Booster last Tuesday, so I'll give them all a good feeding.
I'll give this one a chance. Maybe it's just sulking and will take off when it's good and ready to. I thought it was going to die at first but it's still hanging on.
Poppysue, just LMK if it doesn't make it, I can send another(maybe in the spring, when it's warm)
Glory, that is gorgeous!! I need to move to a warmer climate.
Glory is that your picture from when you went to Ca? If it is would you post it in the database? http://plantsdatabase.com/go/31444/
Glory, those flowers look huge!!! Ma Vie says it is a common plant here, but I sure have not seen it. I am a hazard drivng also for I am forever looking out my window at everyones' plants. Is it a relative of the cup and saucer vine?
