Salpiglossis sinuata, Painted Tongue 'Chocolate Royale' - Seward, Alaska - Early October 2000
Lovely picture...very nice! Is it easy to grow?
You must have the most amazing garden Weezingreens!
That is beautiful weezin. any chance of a few seeds?
I'll check my seeds, Psilo. I think I was checking something else, as well, for you. I've GOT to start writing this stuff down!
Thanks, Kell. My garden isn't so amazing... I just take lots of pictures! This summer was a bit disappointing due to weather, so I have high hopes for next year. I always like trying new plants... starting them indoors from seed! Here's a picture of salpiglossis from the Royale Mix... the colors are amazing.
Just beautiful!!! I am definitely going to grow these next year, God willing.
Is it an annual? Where do you get the seeds?
Woodspirit1: Yes, it's an annual. Here' a link to another thread about them, and I've got a link on there for one seed catalog that sells it. http://davesgarden.com/t/352665/
Well I see White Flower Farm has them but they need your pictures on the cover of the seed packet!
Thanks, Woodspirit! Painted Tongue is always a conversation piece because many people aren't familiar with it.
I too grow the chocolate ones. For Canadians, the only place i've the chocolate seed is in the Lindenberg seed catalogue. Maybe others have it too. I love all the colors
Hi, OrphanAnnie: Glad to hear someone else is growing these beauties. What sort of season do you have? Ours begins about June 1st and is pretty much over by early September.
I usually put them out May 24 weekend and they are still looking pretty good in the middle. The edges are starting to look ratty though
I've got two baskets of the Royale mix, and I hate to throw them out because the foliage looks so good, but I'm not going to get much in the way of blooms from this point on.
I have plug plants sent to me by I do not know who but they are called Salpiglossis Royals, are they simular to painted tongue
Hi, KieranMT: Yes, the botanical name for painted tongue is 'Salpiglossis'. The Royales are the most common variety, I think. Unless specified, your plugs are probably the mix, and I'm sure you'll love them. The color range is amazing.
