I have a P. Incense near the west side of my house on a cross-fence. It is doing well. Probably 10 or 12 feet away I have some other plants that get occasional watering. Yesterday I noticed a vine coming up near them. Today I'm fairly sure it is P. Incense. Would it sucker from the root that far away? I understand they are not self fertile and I've never seen fruit on it, so it must be a sucker. This little guy is growing on top of the berm, higher than the parent plant. How far do I need to dig down if I want to transplant it?
Baby Passiflora
I dug it up today and I don't think it was coming up from the roots. Perhaps a piece of vine got covered and kept damp enough to start. Do they start that easily?
They sure don't root fast as cuttings. I have a lot of trouble rooting red passifloras. Blue Bouquet sends out runners, so I just dig them instead of taking cuttings. I burried some runners of Coccinea for about two months and watered often. They didn't root one little bit. Big disappointment. Cala is the one who has really good luck rooting passiflora cuttings. Maybe she will come along and give you some "how to" information.
I'll bet it was a sucker. Mine went out about 8 ft. from Blue Bouquet and this was a very dry year.
Incense does make runners and you'd be surprised how far they can travel.
When I dug it up, I expected to see some sort of connection to the parent, but I sure couldn't. It was quite shallow rooted so it must have been connected to the parent and I missed it. It seems to have survived the transplant.
