I was just thinking(OK, I've been doing a lot of that lately) and I can buy the new coleus varieties in little plug trays from Flower Fields. I won't get them till sometime in March, but I order them in the fall. If there is enough interest, I can add extras to my order. I will bring the catalog home this evening and post the varieties they have available.
Coleus co-op for spring?
Hi Calla, Count me in! Don't forget about me when you re-order the EE's. Thanks, Jan.
YES!!!
Me too.
Probably!! Right now I just have to figure out how I'm going to save all the new ones I have already. In the past, I found that many don't make it because of mealy bugs or mildew?? If they don't make it I sure want in on the spring one.
YES!! I;m interested--Greetings from Ft.Walton Beach,FL
Count me in!
Azalea, use some pure rubbing alcohol on those pesky mealy bugs if you only have a small amount, use Orthene if you have a big problem.
I'll keep everybody posted on the coleus. I can get all kinds of stuff, as long as I meet the minimum.
You are the greatest Cala - You sure must love to pack & ship!!
I knew I smelled smoke. :-) Oh, just forget I said that. HEHEHE
I want in too. Please!
Wow, me to please. Another addiction.
TLynn, once you start, it never stops, lol.
I would love to join the "coleus clan"! I'm another co-op addict!!!
I'm in Cala.
I wish I could also Cala............... looks like such fun
Hi Cala
Count me in.
Put me on the list too! Have never grown Coleus before, but I am going to need a new addiction come spring, hehe.
TL
count me in too
ME,TOO!!! I only had the 3-4 I got from you (this year) and loved them.
Cala -- Are you still thinking about this?
I would be very interested in a coleus co-op, but I just checked Flower Fields internet site ( http://www.ecke.com/html/h_fields/ff_frameset.html ), and, at least on line, they don't offer many coleus. Most of their new varieties have been around for a while.
Maybe their print catalog has wider offerings, as is often the case. Otherwise, do you have access to other companies that have a wide range of coleus?
Calla,
I'm interested, too.
Azalea, I've had some problem with mealy bugs this year too. I don't think I've ever had them before. I've certainly never had to spray like I have this year.
Mealy bugs here, too. That makes AL, GA, FL and TN. It sounds like a outbreak across the Southlands.
... And I thought it was just because I bought a bargain (mealy bug-infested) Mandevilla!
Cala, do you know if Orthene is generally available? I've been spot-spritzing with rubbing alcohol, but it may be time for the big guns. I also wonder if Orthene will be absorbed and work systemicly, or if it is only on contact -- the alcohol is volatilized within seconds, of course.
Orthene is systemic, sort of, and works for several days I think. I just got out the big big guns, used imidicloprid and Avid. Those little sap suckers were turning up their heels for sure.
I've found another place with lots and lots of coleus, the only problem, the varieties are in increments of 100, but maybe we can meet that.
I meant to ask what all kinds you were thinking while I was there, dang it! It is a good thing my head is attached.
Hi Cala, If it's not to late I would like to be included in a coleus co-op. BTW, we have mealy bugs in the north and they are very hard to get rid of! Will try some of the ideas here.
