I must have very busy bees, because when I was away this summer Maya,Big,L'Amour and this beautiful unknown(to me) orange Brug were pollinated.I have moved the Brugs in because of the cold..6°c these last few days, but can I still try to pollinate the others? and how long do I have to wait until the seeds are ripe? This is my first time having pods, and I am very excited! Will they ripen in their not-so light but 14°c(about 55°f)winter home?BY the way,the others are Shredded white,AureaxSuaveolens white,Full Rosea Magic, another Maya which doesn't have as many flowers as the first,Klerx Var.,and Culebra which is just about to open. That unknown pink one has flowers, but didn't get beed like the others, and Engelsglöckchen just flowers. My Sang never made flowers,so what else is there to cross it with!
Thanks in advance,Gwist
Got pods
gwist, what a lovely orange brug. good luck to you! I dont know a thing about pollinating, the ones in the "know" will be by soon to let you know.
It smells great too, Pebble, even in the late morning and early evening.I can smell it 20 meters away in the evenings in summer, and it is now in my house, downstairs so I smell it as I write!
That is a very pretty orange one! Send me a couple of them please:) LOL
Owen
Gwist, this is a very nice orange. I have no idea about your question, but am anxious to hear someone answer it as I have pods on plants and wonder about them maturing too. I think they will ripen if on a growing plant or one that is getting some light, but might be wrong. As for the time it takes to ripen, different pods take different times. I hate waiting!! As I wrote you, when mine are ready, I'll mail some to you.
I had one last year that had a small pod when I brought it in the house last fall,it rippened, slowley, but it did rippen.
Thanks for the advice crestedchik,I will keep my fingers crossed.
Brugie and oblambert,if these seeds(or any) are ripe by December 19th,I will send you some.My son is going to visit my parents for Christmas, and I have lists of seeds that must be shipped out with him. Thanks Brugie,I can't wait, and I can still send you that pack come December :).
Can anyone identify this orange one? I bought it last year when it was 1/4 price at the garden center, but it was just labeled Datura.
wow girl, you got some good ones!!! I sure hope your seeds make it, could be some really special things in there! wish I could find that lovely at my garden center, I'd even pay full price.
Have no idea on what the orange one might be, but it is beautiful!!!
Thanks tiG,I am sure I would have had more flowering e.g. HHG,Tiara etc if they weren't neglected for 4 weeks..writing a note saying please feed didn't work(lol),but there is always next year.
Hibiscus,I have searched, but to no avail. The leaves are serrated, and it doesn't lose its smell come morning. It is the loveliest orange, but I am not sure if I can send a piece to Joyce.I am sure she would love it though!
Gwist, the picture looks like Charles Grimaldi, but there are 2-3 different plants in circulation, that look a lot like it, so I am not 100% sure.
Its a great collection you have. Is Full Rosea Magic easy to grgow and how does she bllom for you? I have Micre and Super Rose, which are also dbl pinks, but they just arrived as small plants. No blooms yet, but they adapt very good to the climate (I am also in zone 7).
I will just mail you a note from DG, so you can mail me back your address. I have common sanguinea pollen.
oh man, I missed you saying Full Rosea Magic, I lusted after that one all last year!!!!!!11
tiG: Did you finally get it?
oh no, will probably always be a dream:)
Yes tiG,you did read right :).
Tonny,Full Rosea Magic turned into full holea magic this summer..slug food, lol, but it did flower. The doubles never came, though, just were stuck in the center.Whatever that orange one is,Tonny,I just love it!!I would like some pollen, and I am still asking my son to contact his Colombian friend!! I would love some seeds from the source.
I also have either Goldenes Kornett or Rosa Traum, but the tags were lost somehow this summer, and it never flowered. The other one turned into another AureaxSuav,or that's what it should be,lol. And a white Brug I picked up in France labeled Versicolor, but it just white with here and there a double flower. If you want any cuttings, let me know.
Thanks Jeanne..i've come a long way since last year.
Is this a dumb question?? Wondering where you are located Gwist, Biel(CH)????
That's Switzerland isn't it, Gwist?
Is this one Dr. Seuss? ( I seem to be saying that a lot these days - LOL)

Hibiscus, not a dumb question.I live in Switzerland now,and the CH stands for Confoederatio Helvetica,or the Swiss Confederation. It also means that it is almost 2 a.m.,and I should finally go to bed,but my up-and-down computer is up again after 2 weeks,so I am enjoying this sleepless night:)!
I will post a picture when it opens Jeanne. It is warming up here again,so I may move them back outside for the next few weeks..slugs love Culebra, too,so this is the second time it made buds, and hopefully flowers!
Thank you, very interesting! Never would have guessed that!
You STILL have a beautiful orange brug, whatever it turns out to be. Sorry to keep you up so late.
Just my opinion, but I don't think it is Dr. Suess because the tendrils are hanging down instead of curling up.
Oh my goodness Gwist! Its gorgeous! You look like you have a wonderful selection of brugs. I'm glad you are now "addicted" to brugs like so many of us. You must email me and we can discuss our experiences of the Floriad. I have some wonderful pictures that we took there and such fond memories. The Floriad experience completely changed the way that I gardened and the plants that I now grow.
great picture and deep color there!!
I just took this not very picture tonight and decided to post it just to show how the tendrils can look so different on the same plant att he same time, maybe depending how old the bloom is.
I do not know what this plant is by the way. I bought it as a suaveolens gold. It looks alot like CG to me but the leaves have more serration then CG.
Gwist your flower seems to have the orange right up into the throat of the flower. Is it possible for you to take a picture showing the inside of the flower? Thanks. I'm trying to compare it to Kells' CG.
kell,
do you have a picture of the inside of your CG for comparison...soil, temps etc can make a difference. I would like to see how far the orange goes up inside...thanks.
Thanks Kell, and that is a pretty one too!
Hmmm Joyce,if you can wait a week(no digital camera). The color is not a vibrant now as it was then, but I can still take a pic.I loved the Floriade,by the way.I wanted to go back in summer, but Spring was convincing enough.Holland is very beautiful too,and I hope to go back next year(Keukenhof is calling).
Gwist what a wonderful photo! We also spent some time on the island of Renessa. The sand was brilliantly white...I've never seen so many people crouded along the beach. It was neat how they had the oasis along the beachfront with vendors set up like cafes. They had a sand building castle contest and the displays were magnificent...works of art!
Amsterdam was all hussle and bustle, very crowded at all times of the day and evening. I loved the canals! All the streets were pavers including the bicycle paths. I have many wonderful pictures and fond memories. The architecture was just amazing...visited the museums and loved the art!
Joyce,I noticed that on the top of Big spotters Hill.A great view of everything from there.I never made it to Amsterdam, but to Medemblick,on the seaside. My children loved the "boat highway" as they called the dykes that kept the water above us,so it looked as if the boats were actually driving on the land.Ended up in Hoogeveen..very close to Dalen and Gommer:).
Gwist,
I must pull out some of my photos and scan them and send them to you. Is Big Spotters Hill the big cliff? If so then I believe we went there. We had to peddle down the hill and I forgot that bikes had handbrakes and not footbrakes...lol...the fastest turn I ever made in my life at the bottom of that hill...lol.
Big Spotters Hill is the hill in the middle of the Exposition.Very tall for Holland, even though Haarlemmermeer is 6.5 meters below sea level.LOL,you must have had the time of your life going down that hill!!
Gwist I'm telling you my heart was racing...LOL. I thought I was a gonner for sure. We were at a spot close to the large dyke, a huge cliff like structure. I know I have pictures of the site....will post you pics. :-)
It might just be me - but all the yellows and oranges that I have, have color all the way up. Unlike some of the pinks.
Me too Liz........of course I only have a few kinds.
Love your pictures Gwist!
