I have a large red passiflora and I did manage to root a cutting but it took so long. I thought about this and was wondering if it would work. I took two gallon pots with peat moss and sand and placed them under the vine and took the ends of two vines and placed in the pot making sure I covered well with the dirt. Sort of like layering. Think it will work??

Yes, I do this with Clematis, have rooted lot of them this way.

I tried to do a P. Coccinea with a flowerpot full of soil and left two runners there for two months and didn't get a single root. The runners sure kept growing though and it took me forever to get them untangled from the rest of the plant. Then to find out that they had not rooted........well I wasn't happy.

Thanks, I will let ya'll know if it works. Hibiscus did you do anything special or just water.

Make sure where you tuck the stems into the soil that you remove some of the leaves. This is where the stems will set out roots. Did you try rooting cuttings in water? I do this with my vines and they root within a week. The same thing is important..remove the lower leaves that are in the water.

I did the clematis outside, the next spring, the shoots came up and I cut them loose from momma. Planted them in another location, had three plants.

GRC, be sure you scratch the bottom of the stem. This helps rooting. It's worked with other varieties of passiflora. You did better than I did this summer, I've not got one single vitifolia to root.
Joydie, the only time the water method works for me is when I change the water every day. Most of the ones I try in water rot. What is your secret?

joydie I usually root in water and the one I rooted was that way. It took for ever to root. I really wanted to get some for members here that wanted one. Thanks again.
I'll keep trying.
Thanks Cala I didn't think to do that I'll do it first thing.
