Brug home

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Scott got me this for the new Brug's, after last years accidental death by freeze, we will insulating and putting in heat, sometime this next week. He is going to build me a little bench for in front of the windows. Do you all think this will be enough sun to keep the little ones going this winter? Thanks Tracey

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Turning green here.......

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Lucky You Tracey!! Can you send him up here to make me one? I can't get my DH off the golf course.....

Wow!!! Its big like an indoor handball stadion. Is it 2/4, that Scott used? I ordered 2/4 to build my WG. Its very thoughtfull of him to build a bench too, so you can sit and enjoy both the view and the Brugs. Do you have other tender plants to go in there too?

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

I am very happy! It is 10x16 the windows are on the last 12. So will this work for the smaller ones too? I hope to keep some coleus in here as well if it proves to be enough light. We are going to have to hurry though, today was very windy and it felt as though it had a chill to it.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

It looks beautiful Tracey! Someday . .

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Wow! He did a really good job Tracey.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks. It has 2x4 as the studs Tonny, I will post a Pic of the finished job. The bench will be a work bench, and a place to put the babies for the light. I am afraid to put to much in here with the brug's because of bug's. The amount of pesticide I have absorbed already this year, should keep me from being wormy for a good while.

If you need more light, get a 1000 watt HID light. It provides a lot of heat too. But only use it if you want the plants to continue growing and flowering. Give them a rest period around Xmas.

Tracey,
I'm sure your new GH will be filled in no time.

Congratulations TLynn he's doing a wonderful job. Cook him really special dinners for the next little while. You have a wonderful husband and supportive of your passion for flowers.

thats too cool!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Very Nice Brug House.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Tracey - how's the brug house working out? Are all your babies in here now?

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

It is working great, with all the ice and cold we had this week, we lost power, it only got down to about 39. Almost all the babies are in there now, except for a few. Some are still in here rooting. The first chance I get, I have all the stuff to pot those up. I have a ton of Dr.S I cut up two of those, they will go in the ground. The really special ones will be in pots, but alot of my stuff is going in the ground, now that I have this cutting thing mastered somewhat.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

What a pretty room tracey. i have a few flowers on mine outside, shredded white, jean pasco, jamaican yellow, buds on a couple more.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, you lucky duck. Just wrote on one of the other threads that I've got a couple of buds on Creamsickle in the basement. Hope they make it. Should bloom after the first of the year if they don't fall off. I'll have to be a little better about watching them for water though. My Pink Favorite isn't looking good at all. It and one of my PB/Rosamond plants are drying up from the top down. Lost my cuttings of Suaveolens Variegata. This is another hard to root brug. Have some other duplicate cuttings that have croaked. Guess I should have started a little earlier when the weather was warmer.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

I have to go to town, another snow storm coming our way, but I will be back in a while with a new picture of the winter house full and growing so stay tuned!!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

You are really going to love working in that nice big greenhouse.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee Tracey, I had forgotten about this. I am so impressed. Can't wait to see it filled with your lovelies!

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9a)

TLynn, do you rent Scott out? How soon can he head to FL to build me one? LOL Only in my dreams would I ever have such a nice brug home!

Tracey,
Did you ever get your tables built?

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

They are in there, you just can't see them, they are covered with plants.

Tracey,
Here are some pictures of the inside of my GH as you can see it's pretty full too.

Posted the wrong picture..... the one above is just of some tables Ron made for the greenhouse. This is one that holds a lot of the Brugs.

I WANT one....pout, pout, sniff, sniff. Think if I'd stomp my feet and throw a fit that Jim would let me heat a greenhouse for the winter? Nah........won't ever happen.

S,
That's just another good reason to move south...I think I only use 5 twenty lb bottles of propane to heat my GH last year...at $10.00 a bottle that is only $50.00..not bad.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I don't think we could heat the family room for a month for that amount here during the winter. Our light bill will run about $100 per month during the winter and the propane will cost us another $150 each month. I can't imagine what an uninsulated greenhouse would cost. You are right..........I've got to move.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Gloria that looks great, maybe one of these days I can get a bigger one. You do have that pretty full, do you over-winter any in the ground? I didn't notice any big jumps in my electric this month but next month will be bad. Praying for a short winter, or able to get the bill before Scott...

Tracey,
Yes,I have lots of other Brugs in the ground....some I have not been cut back since our frost and boy are they sad looking.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Gloria thats cheap for heating the green house especially since it is so huge. I wonder what that little electric heater is going to run me. I only turn it on when they predict that we will be in the 30's.

Donna,
Not sure....it would cost me to much to heat mine with the electric heaters. I can get 40 hours of heat out of one tank of gas...that's if the heater is set on low. When it gets real cold out side like in the mid 20's I use two tanks each with it's own little heater. I think I only had to do that two or three times in the last 4 years.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You are 2 lucky ladies!!
Glory yours is so huge! I could grow lots of poinsettias in there!
