Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh monika I wish we were there to help. I know you're racing the clock. take care, I hope you don't get sick.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

We will be hoping you get sunshine and warm temps for a few days then. It's raining here, but we've got a few weeks till it frosts.

Hamilton, Canada

Lets hope you don't catch a cold, make sure you have on a good heavy raincoat.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I wear my hubbys rain coat. Forecast says,Thunderstorm and rain will be over on Tuesday. We can expect lots of sun - with freezer temperatures! I work outside, as long as it isnt lightning. I am afraid of it.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

and we certainly agree with you there!!!! hope you have enough breaks to get it all done.

Monika, have you got most of the brugs in yet? Is there anyone who can help you. I wouldn't want to be working outside with the lightning either. We don't get thunder and lightning here much, but we do get heavy rains.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I do it all myself. Half of the brugs are out, the other half still standing along the gallows. All I do is running in and out. Ludger called, he is moving the plants too, they had a hail storm.

Hope you get them all in before cold weather. That's an awful lot of work for you by yourself. Be careful not to put your back out. I get DH to lift the heavy pots. Hope Ludger's brugs didn't get damaged in the hail storm. Mother Nature isn't very nice sometimes, is she?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Not to mention how heavy they must be because they are wet. Take care. You must be used to this racing against the weather after all this time though. But I bet it never gets easier.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It sounds like you won't be getting the snow right now. That is good. Snow on brugs would be really heavy and nasty to work with. Hope everything works out okay for you.

Monika, promise me to take care. I know you will probably be running in and out and if necessary to you fall asleep running to save your precious pearls.

Heavy rain here, but no view to frost the first few weeks, but in I have made room in the garage just in case I won`t have the WG ready, if frost choose to surprise us this year.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

In October 1998, while it was my turn caring for Mom, it snowed and all my brugs were still outside. What a sight, seeing the flowers covered with snow. It didnt do any harm.

In October 1999, the forecast said, it could be ground frost but we had -6°C that night! The next day, I hurried but half of the plants had to stay another night by -6°C.
Leaves and new stems were completely frozen but the thick, many years old wooden trunks survived.

I would have loved to see the Brugs and flowers covered by snow, because it must had looked wonderful, but didn`t it scare you a bit, if they could take it? I remember 1999 for the same thing. Here it was down at -1 the first night and - 4 the next followed by a frost free period until mid December. I remember thinking, that if it was possible to frost protect the Daturas for these few days every year they would in some years grow to aroud Christmass.

You have a milder climate. The waters of North and East sea
warms up polar air. I couldnt risk it. The Vogelsberg mountains are ski resorts. It gives you an idea how rough my climate is.

The other point, especially in our mountain range, we get heavy rains in the fall and in the spring, often accompanied by severe storms. The temp. are seldom above 5 - 7C°, the Brugmansias wouldnt survive because the roots would start rotting.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I have had older plants outside till it got down to 20 F and the main trunks were fine...as long as the temps warm up above freezing in the morning. They die all the way back at 18 F.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

a whole night at -6c. Did they only survive because the trunks were so thick? Would a smaller trunk have the same chance of survival?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It depends which species. aureas will freeze, hybrids with aurea genes are somewhat harder. But I wouldnt advise anyone to try and find out.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Hi,
the storm is gone and my Brugs are well. But I must start to bring my Brugs inside, I hate winter......

Tonny I wish you all luck for your WG, Hurry up!!!

It would be very very bad if some of your Brugs will die in winter.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

He's right Tonny - Lene might not think you are a brug god anymore if you have hundreds of them stacked up in the kitchen, bathroom and living room.
I can't even imagine how you are going to get them all inside.

Ludger, I'm glad your brugs survived the storm.
