Will the buds drop?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I'M SCARED! I know that frost is just around the corner and I must start digging my babies up. The larger plants I sunk in the ground in their pots. I think it will be easy enough to get them up. What's worrying me are the seedlings. They're planted directly in the ground and many of them have buds - some of the buds are pretty good sized now. - I'm afraid the buds will drop when I dig them out. I wonder if spraying them with that wilt-proof stuff will help them hang onto their buds. I plan to stuff them all in my tiny greenhouse for a while before finally bringing them inside. I really want to see these flowers open but they just aren't gonna have time. Next week the nights are going down into the 40s - so I have to start digging soon.

i had to cut a branch with buds on it because it was blocking my path. i cut it and put the cutting in water it did drop some leaves but the smaller buds are still hanging on it has been a week.

Maybe you should give them a really good soaking and then fertilize them well before you did. Fertilize again after you pot them up as lots of roots will get severed. JMHO

poppysue, i have had blooms open in water, long stem cuttings. Dee and i dug up a 4 foot plant with buds on it last weekend and she sent me an email yesterday of the brug with open blooms!!!!! they should mostly be okay i think.

Poppysue, We dug up over twenty Brugs during the past two weeks ranging in size from 3ft to 8ft. I didn't root prune but kept as much of the root as possible as I thought it would be enough of a shock just to dig them up. All had buds and some had seed pods. They all drooped for over a week and I kept them misted daily. Only a very few lost their buds and all have kept the seed pods even after getting blown over in a wind storm.Water them good before you dig them up and water in good after. The only one that lost all it's flower buds and leaves was Peaches and Cream and that one is now over the bank.Suavoleans varie still is loaded and starting to flower.

snow, i am applauding you!!!! did you get a maya yet? it's like a partial release from the addiction, being able to pitch them!!!! one person's plant can sure get around in a hurry, can't it?
i was worried about the one dee got last weekend cause it severely wilted before we thought to water it, she took it home in a plastic bag!

I think it helps a lot to dig in the evening when it is cool too.

I have my first two buds on my very first brug..
just noticed them a couple of days ago. It is in a pot on the deck..how long does it take for a bud to bloom..approx...and should I fertilize it now..I haven't for a few weeks. I am very excited of course..I will bring it inside if frost threatens. I am in Zone 5a ..the same as Poppysue.
Thanks,
Carol

Yes Arlene i have a little Maya not more than 18in. high and it has already Y'd. I've had P&C since last Feb. when I bought it at Logees and it had just started to get buds a few weeks ago. I dug it up just to finally see it flower and it lost all the buds. That was it's downfall and it was immediately sent over the bank.Maya made the decision much easier.

Here is a picture of the one that Arlene and I dug up. I think it did really good. Just out looking at it this morning and has lots of new leaves. This Kyle's Pink.

I've had P & C for over a year, still waiting on a bloom, it's Yed, but no blooms, it might have to go to brug heaven!!

Nice picture Dee. I'm gonna hafta bite the bullet and JUST DO IT! I've been putting it off as long as possible. At least out weather has been mild. It keeps clouding up like it's going to rain but I've only seen a few drops. A good soaking would be nice before I start.
