I've just returned from a 3 day whale watching trip on the Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry. When we arrived at Bilbao we had three hours on land and walked through the town and up into the countryside. I really liked this wild yellow 'thistle' which was growing all over the place. It's St Barnaby's Thistle (Centaurea solstitialis)
Spanish Centaurea
Very interesting, Philomel. Love the centaureas. Find any seed pods?
What a wally - i never thought about it! Mind you, i think i've got enough prickly customers in my garden at the moment LOL. They were very spiky - and need a mediterranean climate.
Well, then, that would leave me out! We went to Anchorage a couple days ago, and I was stuffing seeds in any sort of wrap I could find... it's a disease for me, I think. Never saw a seed I didn't want to steal... er, I mean, collect!
Yes, i really should have done. Got carried away taking photos and trying not to miss birds etc (and keep up with the group LOL) All very feeble excuses i know.
I generally carry those little tiny ziplock bags with me everywhere, and page of labels. Were I to ever be stopped and searched, the authorities would probably tear the truck apart looking for drugs!
What a good idea - i'll have to get kitted out.
