I read that they both make nice displays their first year, and, since I'm going to have lots of fencing up to fend off the deer, I figure I may as well make it attractive my training up some vines and incorporating part of it into an arbor.
I could also use some tips on germinating the moonflower seeds. I've already tried them once and they rotted. Other gardening friends have had the same experience.
I have some trades to offer or SASE. http://www.davesgarden.com/tl/Paris
Seeking Moonflower and Hyacinth Bean Vine for trade
Hi Paris have some moonflower seed somewhere I recieved two batches. Will look Shirley
Paris: You can send me an sase for Ruby Moon Hyacinth Bean Vine seed, I have alot left over. They are fresh seeds that I collected from my vines last fall. Debby
Debby: That is great. I'd love to have some of your Hyacinth Bean Vine seed and can send a SASE on Tuesday or Wednesday. .... as soon as I can get the current trades ready to mail.
Please let me know if you'd like any of my trades in return.
paris...the moonvine seeds need to be nicked, then soaked in warm water. I use my pocket knife to cut a piece of the hard coat off..it makes a place for the water to go inside the seed. A friend once told me she used toenail clippers. After they are nicked, put them in water and they swell up a bit, then sow them...I prefer in cell packs so you can let them get a bit of size on them and can also easier set them exactly where you want them. Have fun! (and they really like poor soil!)
I know this is late, but I have moon & hyacinth seeds & would love to share them w/ you. send me your address,to sewnmom7@yahoo.com
