Coiled stigma

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I have an unknown versi x euro from LBJ seed. So far I've only had two blooms - creamy, single split calyx which comes to about an inch of the corolla edge. Extremely thick walled corolla, thicker than the aureas. But the thing that gets me is that the stigma is very long and loops around the anthers up inside the tube. It does it on both blooms. I walked around to look at the other brugs but can't see it anywhere else. Is this a temperature thing?

Daylilies do that a lot. Sometimes the pistal will be split into 4 or 5 segments. I've seen them start out that way and then all the sudden they start forming normally.

This is a lousy picture, kind of dark, but hopefully you can see the stigma. It's not split, but instead of growing down parallel with the anthers it swirls around outside of them. Around and around.

That's different.

That's weird. like the stigma in a Shredded White sometimes.

Pretty strange Liz. I've never seen one like that before. Maybe Monika will drop by and tell us.

This is a side view - again, sorry for the picture, we have gale force winds.

Liz, is that one of the babies from me this Spring?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Yes it is. The corolla walls are thick - and I mean thick. Not mited (TG), it was one of the ones in the nursery bed, so is still in an gallon pot. You know how it is. The nursery bed is where I put things that either bloom by winter and impress me for some obscure reason, or they go to the shredder.

It's blooming like that in a gallon pot. Tres cool. None of mine in gallon pots are blooming yet. How tall is it?

You're making me look bad Brugcrazy, about 4 ft.
