Forecast says first snow in Monday

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

and I just started with pruning. Today, I cleaned the GH, washed and desinfected the sand in the rooting beds.

Its very mild tonight and the fragrance of the Sommerkönigin flowers filled almost the whole garden. Oh my, I will miss the sweet fragrance, this is going to be long long winter!

Rothkirch has 8 seed pods and I hope, they will stay. Charleston has the double amount of seed pods and here I am hoping too.

While emptying the rooting beds, I found an old seed pod. Looked like he was buried for a long time in the desert. Which he was, the heating pads were on for a long time. Now the seeds are soaking in mild warm water. In two days, I hope they are ready.

Oh gosh Monika, I hate to hear that the snow will start flying for you already. I'm not liking the cool weather we are having and I know that in about three weeks we will have a frost. It is so hard to look at the brugs and know that I won't see bloom until later next summer. Such a long time to wait for something I love so much. I hope the weatherman was wrong and you don't get the snow. Wish I could be there to help you get things arranged for winter, but I don't like flying much more than you do.

Don't work too hard.

Gosh, another spelling error
Shirley

It must break your heart to have to start packing up your garden while everything is looking so beautiful. But I guess they will continue blooming in the GH for awhile won't they?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Thank you Shirley, but I must get at least some of them at least in the large Ghs in the back yard. The alley trees will go straight into the Winterhouse and after that, I have to empty the other two Ghs. In the larger one are about 100 young plants, seedlings about 1 -2m tall.

No Liz, there will be not many blooms anymore. When I am finished, the Winterhouse will be packed with about 300 plants on 35qm.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh, it makes us sad too. if you moved here near me, they could go a while longer, hint hint!! LOL!! I don't envy you the work though, I know you're going to be very busy.

Oh Monika, snow on Monday. So sad. I'm sure you have tons of brugs blooming in the GH so you can still enjoy them. I too wish I was closer and I'd help you dig the brugs up and move them.

It still amazes me how you grow the most amazing brugs with such a short growing season.

It's raining here today but supposed to be really nice on the weekend. We won't have frost until November probably. But we will have gale force winds and rain.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Will you show us pictures of the big move?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I will show you pictures of the big move. The work, I dont fear. I am just sad about the early winter break in.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

I don't know what to say Monika, I am sorry with you, we will miss your blooms, too. Your pictures are always so beautiful.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I'll bet she has hundreds of them. She singlehandedly got us through last winter with her pictures. It looked like brug summer all winter long.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Monika, it is a sad day indeed when we have to pack our plants up and carry them inside. I too was looking at my brugs and thinking I had better get working on them before we have a cold spell.

Monika, I am sorry to hear, that your Brugs are going in already. Its been a short summer for you. I know the sadness and it can be the same, that I had for 12 years in mid October, when I go out one sudden morning and all the Daturas has rime frost on their leaves and I know, that in the moment the sun hits them its over. Of course only for that season, but when the sun goes it takes a lot of joy and pleasant experiences with it. If I could I would travel to the underworld to free the sun and let it shine a few more months on your Brugs and keep the frost away.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Monika - it baffles me that you have such a short growing season but have such beautiful plants. I've been trying to prepare for the frost coming but it's been so nice out I'm having a hard time even thinking of it. I can't imagine snow! I hope your weatherman is wrong!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Me too, hope it stays warm a bit longer for you. I couldn't imagine a frost in September, let alone snow.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Monika, So sorry to hear snow is coming so early. I am not far behind you on cold weather coming but it has been in the 70's this week so my Brugs are still out. I do have them potted and ready for the GH but am holding off till the last minute. When the days are warm and sunny it gets so hot in the GH I'm afraid it will cook them.I hope the snow holds off for you for awhile. It's too early.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Monika, I hate the winter too..it will frost lightly here then stay warm another 2-4 weeks after that...so I push everything into the garage for a while then back out till I move them in for winter..it extends our season a bit longer.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

What do you do all winter Monika to stay busy? Do the GH plants take alot of time?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

This weather sounds like our Alberta weather. The next province over - across the Rockies. Mountain weather. 80f one day and snow the next. But Monika's is probably more civilized.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Monika,
I lived in Germany for 3 years and loved every minute of it. But, my first day there was October 15 and it was SNOWING. Truly a short growing season.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Our frost is due too ,snow not far behind...

But when I left work tonite it was 74 degrees...

I LOVE IT!!!

Temperate days here, but weatherforecast said down to about zero degree celcius tonight and the next three nights, so I dug up all the Brugs pots today. Waaaah!!! The WG will bee too small. Good that we build the larger one next year. But this winter we got to live with half of them in the house. Lene hasn`t seen, how much room they actually take up. *LOL* She will get a shock. *LOL*

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, she could come live with me, but we're in the same boat!! maybe we need to start a winter retreat for spouses overrun with brugs!!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

SIL is here today getting the addition to the GH finished. Just in time too as it's going into the 30's night time temps this week.May not get the inside finished but at least they will have cover from the frost.
