I love this datura but I have a question. Can I dig it up and pot it to keep it over the winter?

can it be rooted from cuttings? If so how(and can it be done with the variegated one?)

If I dig it should it be cut back? Its over my head right now......

CC- I dug some up last year. The doubles didn't make it but a big white metaloides did. They have a big thick root and it's hard to dig up without breaking it. I waited until after frost before I dug them. I don't know how they'd do now.

I tried cuttings too but I didn't get any to root. Maybe air layering would work?

Maybe if you could find a branch with out any buds to get a cutting. I did cuttings last year, I think 1 or 2 out of 20 rooted.

CC, you have to take cuttings from the variegated datura. It won't come back true from seed. I'd bet there would be people who would have the purple seeds for you for SASE if you would ask on another forum or even here. I think Ruby Tuesday will have seed, but is also having back surgery next month. Might want to write her. I know she would be tickled to share if she has enough.
