This is what you were telling us about! How wonderful to have this in your own yard. What time do they start gathering? Is this where they will make their cocoon?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

they start gathering up about an hour before dark, they seem to like the moss. i have seen what i believe are boy zebras sitting on cocoons early in the morning, waiting for the girls to hatch i think, on the oak tree up front near the wild flowers and the passion vines. it's pretty neat. i think most kinds hatch out around 9am. i'm thinking what a good pic you would have made of this.

What a nice thing to say, thanks. Does this go on all summer or just for a short time? I think it would be great thing to photograph. Have you done that yet?

i guess it does. will check and see. i really like my butterflies, dee brought me dutchman's pipe. i had bought buckeye baby trees but killed them somehow.

Oh how neat!! The swallowtails rest on the phlox flowers here at night, sometimes a half dozen on a cluster of blooms. I have to be careful if I run the sprinklers not to drown them!!

cala, i didn't know that! i liked your buckeye BF. gonna have to get them some food around here for next year.

They are around this time of year. When I first saw it, I thought it was a painted lady. Love those zebra longwings, we don't get them often here.
I have a Dutchmans Pipe vine that's pretty hardy if you need another. It hasn't bloomed, got the seeds 2 years ago at GW, thought for sure they would bloom this year, but I didn't treat them good last winter.
I had some heliconia cats eating my passifloras, they like pansies too.
