About Yo Yo Dieting

San Francisco, CA

I saw a tv show about obesity on PBS. It talked about people who have a gene that makes them burn less calories, all day long. I have heard about this before, but I would take it one step farther. I feel that on top of having a gene that burns less, there must be another gene that makes some people (such as myself) more hungry then other people.

I feel like I am hungry all of the time when I am on a diet, and if I just trying not to gain weight, I still feel hungry most of day. It is usually not stabbing pains of hungry, but a feeling that I just want to eat a little snack in between meals, when I am not supposted to be eating.

I have family members who are over weight on both sides of my family and some have diabetes.

Exercise never helps me lose weight. I can't do that much any way, because of my knee and my back are bad, but exercising more is not enough to off set this problem, gene or whatever. However, I think many other people have the same problem or gene as me. They say this gene was useful in times of famine, and that is why we have it.

I was taking that Metabolite, but it stops working after a while. Sometimes, I would take it and it would not work, anyway. Sometimes it would work. I would take it when I would start to feel hungry.

If I start to feel hungry, and I don't eat, then it can turn into a full blown hunger, and this can lead to a binge.

I feel there is no solution until they discover something that can really help. Only drugs such as speed, can offset it, but they are too dangerous overall to consider, and illegal as well.

I am just feeling sorry for myself right now. But, I was heavy as a child even. Now, I need to lose about 8 pounds. But, I am not sure it is going to happen.

Sometimes I try to diet and gain wieght instead of losing weight. If I am very depressed, I do eat less, but this is terrible trade off. I am happy, that I am not depressed now, but this pattern of Yo Yo dieting is awful. As soon, as I say, ok, I am at my right weight, I begin to gain much faster then I lost the weight.

I never allow myself to eat junk food or dessert, but that is not enough to keep me from gaining weight. I would like to hear from anyone who is facing the same struggle.

There is tons of diet advice out there, and I do follow the rules. Every women's magazines promisses fast and easy weight lose, but it just is not true. The diet industry is a total sham, and 98 percent of all dieters gain the weight back within ten years.
