working on shapes

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

okay, I think I know this is versicolor (hanging, recurve, one split in calyx and no opening between calyx and corolla). (4th day of bloom btw:)
if I want this shape, do I use it as mother or father?? how does that work?

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

tig, If you have an extra cutting, I'd love one. Let me know. Thanks, Jan.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Jan, I'll be posting what I have for cuttings when it gets a bit later, I'll put you in the book to save one of these for you, and you might want something else then too.

I have this one too...they'll be lots of cuttings later.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

tiG, this is not a versicolor. It has suaveolens genes. Its to see on the corolla tube. versis have a clear trumpet shape, like Ecuador Pink. The corolla tube is more funnel like.

I am afraid, the day will come, where you all going to kill me!

Monika, we won't kill you, we need you too much. I, for one, really want to know what is what and the parentage. This way we all learn lots from your years and years of experience. BTW, how long have you been growing brugs?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I think, its now 25 years, maybe a few more.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Monika . . . I hope that you never get tired of educating us on these wonderful plants. You have so much patience and I am grateful that you spend some of your time helping us to become more knowledgable.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I would never kill you!! I am here to learn. I just took the description off NH and tried to figure from what the parents were:) But I do have a question now. All suaveolens don't have the skirty corolla??

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

this hybrid has genes of suaveolens, aurea and versicolor.
From suaveolens is the funnel shaped corolla tube, the skirts and the tendrils are aurea inheritance and the pending flower is versicolor influence. EP is almost a pure versicolor as my EP x Rothkirch hybrids look like x candidas. They dont differ very much.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

still trying to soak it in:) funnel and trumpet confuse me.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Me too!!

No wonder you can spot these things so easily, Monika, 25 yrs. you are GOOD, thanks for any help you can give us.
