Passiflora's, Where can I find these

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

Can someone tell me where I might find a passiflora foetida alba and a red passiflora of some sort??
Would be looking for plants to grow inside for the winter.
Thanks in advance for any info

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Artymiss - browsing the web I found a great site that has lots of different passiflora seeds http://members.aol.com/pasiflora1/ I've been thinking about ordering a few myself.

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

Thanks Poppysue!! I will check them out.
I wonder what kind of luck I will have with seeds....If you do order and wanna split the seeds, let me know and I'll send moola to you

Artymiss, I'm trying to root a red passiflora vitifolia. I'ts a little early yet, they root better in the fall. I can try to root one. I had so-so luck with seeds, Tim is much better.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

We can do that. It'll give us a little more variety to play with. Passifloras can be tricky to germinate. there have been a few threads about it on the forums. I did a few last year - some seemed to be pretty easy and I gave up on some of the stubborn ones.

I'll go through his list and make up my mind as to the ones I want.

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

Cala, I would be so grateful!!
Thank you so very much!!

You can also try barbadine.com; they list a lot of Passifloras, and are willing to mail seeds unmarked into the US. (Just ask:)

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

Oh, try to find us some easy ones...LOL!!

Thanks Arsenic, I will check out barbadine

Here is a link to the P. Foetida ALba. I fell in love with this picture. Gotta have it. They are calling it "Love-in-a-Mist" Alba Var.

Well looky here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2053885767 They're selling the seeds on e-bay. You might want to check out they're other auctions too.

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

Looks like I'll be bidding on these seeds...
Will it come true to seed?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Before y'all buy seeds, I've got pods!!! I have ripe seeds from foetida, just the plain white with purple fillaments, seeds from capsularis are ripe too.

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

Oh Oh COOL!!! I would LOVE to have some seeds!!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Cala is it this one? http://davesgarden.com/showforumphoto.php?imageid=13013 I tried capsularis seeds last year... I think from tiG? I never got any germination. I don't think I soaked them in OJ - just planted them straight from the package.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Poppysue, I have that foetida hirsuta too, this is the one I have ripe seeds from http://www.passiflora.it/foetida.htm
I planted some capsularis seeds a few weeks ago, I'll keep you posted. I have to grab them when the capsule opens, the ants love them and carry them all off.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh Cool! I like the pink one :) That is Hirsuta? I think that is the one on the cover of my new book.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Pretty sure, it came from the Liner Farm in Florida.

This post is kind of old but i have seeds of p. foetida albs if anyone wants em?

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

I have quite a few different ones rooted as we speak. You can look at my trade list to get a general idea of what I have. I haven't updated my trade list though. I have pretty much every thing on there rooted or rooting. The only ones "rooting" have been cut a little while back so they aren't quite ready yet but will be in a couple more weeks. Capsularis would certainly interest me too if you have any seeds left Cala. I have incarnata seeds available too. These are fresh and were harvested only days ago. I still have TONS of fruit I harvested from wild growing plants in a park nearby. Cleaning these seeds off is quite a task. More so since I'm trying to use some of the fruit for consumption.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

www.gkexoticplants.com has all you want. That's the ransom garden people. They have a gallery of passis check it out. Some of my shots are there. They send they plants in a great container nad they get to you ALIVE and well.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

I regret to report that I had a HUGE complication with gkexoticplants regarding an order of significant size. A story that takes far too much energy to type up and makes me a bit noxious thinking about it. Maybe one day I'll place it on the watchdog section.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

You were looking for two things right? I got one. The shipping is $8 for one or three. www.kartuz.com is cool too.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Bugfreak, wow, this was an old thread! I think I still have capsularis seeds that I collected last fall(2003). I'll have to see if I can find them. Don't know how well they will come up since they're a bit old.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Most Passiflora seeds don't come true, but I believe the self-pollinating ones do.

BugFreak, I don't know how you managed to root so many Passifloras! I've had no luck this summer at all. I managed to root one Passiflora Alata, but even though it had perfectly good roots, the stem turned brown and died. I'm officially giving up trying to root them. You should definitely add an entry to Grassy Knoll's feedback. If I had seen your entry, I never would have ordered from them. See my entry here: http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/176/

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Cala,
They have a very short shelf life but I'd be willing to give them a try. I hope that they come true to the parent. We'll see. Thanks.

Clare,
I wish you all the luck with your order. I'm sure it will work out. I hope my experience was an isolated one. Please do let me know how it works out.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Hugo. The whole story is at the link above. Unfortunately, your experience was not an isolated one.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Wow... I see what you mean. I definately need to add mine on there. Just to give people the heads up. I would have personally left it negative instead of neutral. Just my take on it. Great post though. At least you did your part to inform people about this. I still need to do this. My experience was similar to yours.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Yeah, I wanted to leave it negative, but I wanted to give Elizabeth incentive to follow through on the order. Supposedly, the entries are emailed directly to her. I said that if I received my order, as promised, I would change it to neutral. People can still see that she had a negative rating from me, and they can read the whole story if they take the time. I will never, ever order from them again. I filed a complaint with PayPal, but unfortunately, I waited until longer than 30 days from the date-of-purchase to file a claim. PayPal will only act on your behalf if you make a claim within 30 days. I would definitely encourage you to leave a comment. Even if you don't want to have to explain the whole story, you can just condense it down to a few words.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

I have read that the comments are sent directly to her. I believe this is true. I will leave a comment. Another reason I hadn't was because I hate to think that I would be burning a bridge sort a speak but it's just not worth it and I can always find another source if she changes her customer service to me based on my comment left. You'll see my comment soon. And you can bet that it will be negative. I'm also going to do a search in DG and see how many times prior that I mentioned GKE and edit the post to direct people to see my "change of heart" toward GKE.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Clare and Bug,
When I finally recieved my plants from Grassy knoll, they were just mere cuttings in 4 inch pots,I was so disappointed, especially having waited all that time. She advertised pay in advance to hold you plants to ship when the weather is permissable, when I ordered them her website said they were available, and she e-mailed me that she had my plants and would ship first week In April, and was middle May when I got them.
She told me she had sold more than she had and was unable to send me mine, well what happened to I have you plants and will ship first week in April? She had my money since February!
Do date I have not lost any of the plants, but they are struggling to continue to grow, actually Clare the rooted cuttings you sent me are tripled to what garssy knoll have sent!
And we both know how hard they are to root cuttings!!!!
Thanks again,
Well thats my story and I'm sticking to it!!! LOL!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL, Don. I'm glad the ones that I sent you are growing well. I read your comment about Grassy Knoll before I ordered and was hesitant to order, but I figured that I wouldn't have to wait because it is in the middle of summer. Then I waited and waited and waited some more! It is not right for a business to take your money in advance. At this rate, she won't be in business much longer.

BugFreak, I'm glad that you will write up a comment about them and share your story with others so that others may not have to go through what we went through. There will always be other sources for Passifloras. Logee's gets more and more cultivars all the time, and here are some more sources also: http://www.kartuz.com/passifloras.html and http://www.glasshouseworks.com/catalog2003.html but always check Garden Watchdog first before ordering:-)

Edited to add this link also: http://www.driveservice.com/passiflora/
