what in the world do you have them planted in???? did you use Osmocote? and one last ? what is your soil like?? I'm beginning to think perhaps there's a ph thing that's real important or something

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Boy! What a GREEN thumb!

I do not know if the ph, ours is alkaline, might have something to do with it, or the weather(which we have no control over), but I have had very few blooms. About seven brugs with buds, all on ground this morning. Got down to 53 last night.

i read somewhere online as i do some research, brug's ph is between neutral to acidic ---6.5 thru 7. i wished i had booked marked that site. duh!!! i believe it could be true cause accdg to Monika, her soil is of volcanic origin which i tend to conclude to be acidic. Kyle has good growths too, and said one time if memory serve me right the soil where he is was ones a pasteur land. just my 2 cents worth.

edited to add what i failed to say in the 1st place LOL!

u sure got them going out of control if i may add. very lovely brugs Nancy!!!!

Wow Beautiful.. I see you lives in Texas I am here in LA.. Do you plant in full Sun or part Sun?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Yep, we have 6.0 soil, and most everything likes it, as long as the temps don't get to high, and it is watered properly.

Arlene brought this thread up ... http://davesgarden.com/s/241095.html, in response to inquiry about how these brugs got out of control LOL!!! nice comparison too when these babies came to be what it is today!

Mini that pix look more like full sun.
Wow so pretty so full pack together look good.

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

yes this bed is in full sun. the soil is from a compost mountain we found at a horse farm. they had the mountain building i think for yrs. it is the blackest soil i have seen. never did do a soil test. most everything i plant in these beds grow great.
dh is crying that they are in the paths i need to trim them up again but everytime i look all i see is beautiful buds and i don't want to cut them, i do think it hurts me more than them lol.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Wow! That's beautiful. Wish mine would grow that full.

It is all about dirt!! This is the second person who loves horse dung. Brugie can't you get some from your DD? I know she doesnot live close, but a truck load might be worth it.............

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Congratulations Nancy :)! ur photo made it in today's newsletter!

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

i do believe manure is great stuff :) if we tried to grow in the dirt around here i would have nothing growing. what i did was call around to the horse farms and asked if we could raid their manure piles and this one farm said come and take all you can. boy did they make a mistake, we did make a large dent in that mountain. i sure hope they still have some next spring when i landscape the back of the house.
wooohoo i love to make the newsletter lol.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Did you have to age it farmgirl? there are horse riding stables around here but how would I get it here? LOL, my DH would not let me use my station wagon!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

u deserve to be in the newsletter Nancy :)! that goes to show u all the hardwork finally paid off LOL!

Kell, u can buy those 13 or 18 gal. trash can/plastic with cover. that is what my brother and i used to do in hauling wholesale compost from the nursery in his van, to take to my house. he lives in Pomona and i used to live in Los Angeles.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you are so smart Ma Vie!!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

not smart Kell, merely using common sense :)!

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

the compost we used was very old it turned to soil. when you find some you will just need to check it out and see if it is ready if you are using it as dirt. we hauled it in our 1979 toyota longbed pick up that dh keeps fixing. everytime it breaks down i have dreams about making it into a flowerbed so dh fixes it. he wants it to run for another 20 yrs. which isn't to bad to haul poopoo in but not good if you don't want to get dirty while making a run to town.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

congrats on photo of the day, you deserved it!

san antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

hi farmgirl21, are you bringing cuttings to the round-up?

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

if i am able to go that is a big YES. i am hoping to make it to the round up but we are having a surprise party for dh birthday the next weekend so i am trying my best to get everything ready for that weedend and still go to the round up. we already reserved the camper so that is a go. now if everything else falls into place.
