Someone sent me the seeds for this earlier this spring and it has done a great job of growing. Have some in the ground too and they are much taller, but no bloom. Great plant for a tropical garden.
Cassia Plant
What's the yellow, Brugie??? I'll need to add this one to my want list.
"eyes"
Eyes - Not Brugie but...the yellow is Cassia alata, Candlestick Plant. If my seed pods ripen (and no reason why they shouldn't) I will have lots of seeds. If anyone else wants them?? It's a cool plant and the host plant for the Sulpher Butterflies.
Brugie, whaqt a beautiful garden!
Thanks a lot. I have to say that they have suffered in the heat this year, but not as much as I have. Just haven't wanted to bust my B___ to go out there an work in the heat. Still enjoyable anyway.
How long does it take for the seed pods to ripen? I have little pods starting, but we will have a frost in a month. If they don't make it, would you save me some seeds from yours. Would sure appreciate it a bunch.
Shirley
Save some for me, too, please Floridian!!

Brugie, Then you don't need me to save you seeds like we talked about?
oh, i have this too!! my friend jim gave it to me for my birthday, but it hasn't bloomed yet. if it does, and i get some seeds, i'll bring you some to the thingy, eyes!
Woo Hoooooooooo,,,,,,,,,,that would be awesome meiyu!!

Y'all let me know, I'm sure there will be plenty. Our plant is in full bloom and some stalks have great long green seed pods, some just little tiny new ones. I'll post as they get ripe.
And Shirley, the heat has been brutal this year. If I work outside on Saturday, on Sunday I can hardly stand to leave the AC. I'm going downtown tomorrow morning to photograph our town's 9-11 memorial, Flags Along Bayshore, a couple of hours in the heat with no break...hope I'm up for it! - Stacey
Shirley is it hardy? I love it!
Roz, yes. I couldn't remember if it was you or Dee that sent them to me. Yes, I want your seeds and Floridian will have more to share with the others. Thanks for reminding me where they came from. I tell you all, I'm suffering from CRC syndrome. The cassia and Tacoma are two of my favorite plants. Cassia will go right into the tropical bed next year.
if there are any seeds still floating around id luv some-that is one of the neatest looking plants ive seen!
Brugie, your tropical garden is beautiful! Are you SURE you live in zone 5 and not the tropics?!
Floridian, I would love some seeds too :~) Do you have any left?
brugie, mine seems to have little baby stalks shooting out around the base of the mother plant...do you think they could be separated? i did it with my oleander, but i'm wondering if i should take the chance with cassia?
Meiyu, you would have to ask someone other than me. I just stick the seed in the soil and if it grows, I feel lucky. I know nothing about these plants. I rarely fertilize it, that is about all I can say. It does get a drink twice a day.
hahaha...i think i'll just wait until i have seeds, then!!
Shirley, your garden is beautiful. Floridian I would love some seed if there is enough. Very pretty!
Very pretty Shirley. I have this plant also and I really like the blooms and the way the big leaves close up at night. I think there is a pinkish color one but I have not been able to find it anywhere.
meiyu, that may just be branches, our plant has at least 3 stalks. Our plant has grown almost 10 feet since we planted it in April!
I think between me and Floridian, we should have enough seeds for anybody who wants them. Floridian, yours sounds like mine, just hugh. Mine came back from last year, but I don't think this is usual; how about where you live? Does it come back every year? I have four planted, and all have seed pods developing. Hummingbirds like it too.
I have some seeds, plenty, from last year if anybody wants them now for the green house. Email me if you want some.
Roz, I don't know, this is my first year with this plant. They do come back or reseed REALLY well. There are thickets of them in places around here, mostly creekbanks. I believe this plant is listed as a 'pest' here in S Florida. We talked about whether to plant it all then decided we'd be really careful with the seed pods. I wanted butterflies. And I want hummingbirds too!!
I can see where they would be a pest in your zone. I am in 8B, but I think sometimes, where I am located, it is more like zone 9. I guess a bird or something carried a seed, cause I had a candlestick plant come up in the middle of my rose bed. Must say, it did better than the roses, with no work at all!
GUESS WHAT EVERYBODY??? i pulled up that little baby sprout, and her root came with it!!! i potted her right away, so we will see if it survives??
Cool meiyu, I'll try that next spring. The one we have now was pulled out. See it here http://davesgarden.com/s/85493.html It was in a pot til we planted it in April, it's pretty big now but I hear they get to be upwards of 25'
LOL Roz doesn't that figure! But this is definitely a no fuss plant.
Brugie, Sorry about your thread...see how I am :)
KEWL BEANS!!! Ya gonna bring her to the Round Up???? :D
"eyes"
No problem Floridian, I just keep reading and always hoping that I might learn something new. At least I don't have to worry about one getting to 25 ft. I'd love to see a picture of one that big though. Must be awesome.
Eyes...you may not have to wait for the round-up. Check your mail.

I LOVE YOU TOO, EYES!!! hehehe!!!
