My Maya

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Maya is kind of hidden behind all the brugs in the front row. She is loaded with bloom this time around. I had to climb over weeds to get to the back side to get this picture. Yes, weeds. When it got really hot, the garden weeds took over. Will have to mow them off one day soon.

Beautiful flowers, Shirley!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh my!!!!! Absolutely beautiful Shirley. I can't believe how fast this one grows. The cutting you sent me is not even 1 1/2 ft high and has Y'd and has tiny buds. Sure beats P & C for growth.

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Brugie...Now that is a Brugmansia!!! She is georgeous. I'm hoping she is the mother to cutting you sent last fall.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

gorgeous, gorgeous, are youo sure you aren't in europe? i am really happy for you.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks you guys. Sure glad you can't see those blooms closely. They are full of holes.

Yes Ruby, this would be the mother plant that yours came from. She does grow fast and I was surprised at the number of buds this time. I sure didn't plan well when it comes to placement, but learned a lesson from it.

tiG, packed, hard, black soil is what I have. I won't put them out there again unless I can get a ton of compost and large sand to mix into it and then would not use the drip irrigation again. I'm wondering if I got them wet and then the heat just cooked the trunks right at the soil line. When I quit using that watering method, the problem quit and I honestly don't water them much at all. A sprinkle a day or sometimes a good sprinkle every three days. They always look dry and they do NOT get fertilizer. Too big of a job. How was that for being windy?

S,
Everything is looking so good at your place...that is one beauty.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

brugie, when did you stop fertilizing ? i thought you used peters every 2 weeks.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, I still do for the potted plants, but when it got so hot, I just couldn't go out there and let it dribble on the ground for an hour. My soil doesn't take water that is poured on it. Will run off immediately. So it has to go on slowly and 95 degrees in full sun, isn't the time to fertilize. At night, I was too tired to go do it. So, they just got a couple of good times in before I quit. I figured since the buds were started, they wouldn't need it anyway and those in the ground can get nutrients from the soil. That soiless mix has nothing in it after a couple of weeks, so they have to be fed to bloom well. Must say that the brugs in the ground do bloom much better too.

This is beautiful and I am so glad that you are getting lots of blooms now. Is Maya very fragrant?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Brugie,

When did you say you were taking cuttings? :)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugnanny, mine has a lemon scent!! noticed it last night. fertilized two opening blooms with creamsickle, gotta see if i can catch up with Alice. seems like a really good match, don't you think? i mean maya X creamsickle!!!
brugie, just goes to show how many differences there are. tom said i should just get a layer of asphalt put down 2 feet under my soil so it would hold water. i have beach sand on top of lime stone! butterfly and pink beauty have done well, both are close to7 feet and making more buds, both have amended soil, watersorb and good fertilizer all year. dr suess has started growing, i expect a great show from it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Honibee, cuttings will be available around the first of October, give or take.

Frannie, it is hard for me to tell without sticking my nose in a bloom. There is just such a strong fragrance in the area because of all the others blooming. I have to be careful when I start to lift a bloom to smell it. Might get a beetle up my nose or a bee on the end of my nose. Insects/bees have been plentiful this year.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Holy Cow!!! That's sure got a bunch of blooms. It's gorgeymus, beeautymous.
