Culebra Bloom

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

These blooms are so small compared to what I'm used to. It is cute, smells good, and the poor thing is dealing with a mother who has dropped most of her leaves. They are growing back, but slowly, I'm afraid. This is the touchiest brug I've ever grown. Buds have fallen off many times, now the leaves, I wonder what will happen next.

This bloom is a little misshapen due to laying up against a stem. The other pictures were fuzzy, so, sorry.....not a good picture again.

S,
How tall is your plant? Mine is only about 18inches tall and is growing in pure compost but still a slow grower.

Gloria, mine is probably about 30 inches tall now. It has dropped a lot more buds than will ever bloom. Tough one for me. Creates stress!! :-) Then that takes me back to loving a challenge, so here I am. Still trying to figure out how to grow this one.

Brugie, mine got ill in mid summer after one bloom. it grew and bloomed well for me last fall, hoping it will be picking up now with shorter days.

Shirley, its a little beauty. :-) Its funny. A year ago all on the internet used the culebra picture from Preissesl book, but now there are several pictures of it. I enjoy yours very much and the shape make me wonder, if its and aurea or x candida and that`s good. :-)

Glory, mine grew from 8 cm to 45 cm from April and that is slow. Quinde was a late comer and she has been cut three times. The last time the trunk was cut to give power growth from the four base suckers. She`s 10 cm high now, but in two week she will be larger than culebra.

Kyle, that`s funny, that the growth rate of these two are so different, because there are close related. Flower and some leaves are different. However, Quinde put out a few culebra leaves like CG will put out a few serrated and I spottet several small leaves on culebra looking like Munchira. I could be mistaken, but both culebra and Munchira has a reputation for extreme slow growth, so Munchira could be a mutant clone taken from Culebra or the other way around.

Arlene, is it a shortdays bloomer?

Thanks Brugie, if you can take more later. I have always been intrigued by this one!!

culebra blooms seem to me to be like half a shredded white. maybe culebra is shredded white's mom.
i didn't get culebra til last july and it grew very fast starting in september and was loaded with blooms. it quickly this summer got back to last year's size, then lost its buds and leaves. leaves are coming back, hoping it will do like last year and be a fall bloomer, don't really know.

I think it's lovely Shirley and worth all of the trouble. Mine hasn't put buds out yet, still hoping it might.

What a dainty little flower. I like it.

I did go back out to look at the size of it, and it is about three foot tall. Maybe a little taller. I hope it shapes up and does something fantastic, but with our early frost, it would have to finish up in the house and I doubt it could handle the change. Arlene, I wish yours hadn't done this too, but I don't feel quite alone having the same symptoms on mine. Hope you get a good picture of yours when it does get ready to put on a show.

I love it and thinks its worth all the babying....
