iris question

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

I have a small bed of "Oregon Skies" iris. The corms are out of the ground ; I can't even see soil beneath them. I know I'd better divide them soon to give them room to grow and thrive... wanting your tips and tricks on this process... !

TIA,
Janie

This ia a great tutorial about dividing bearded irises.

In your zone you'll want to do it as soon as possible.... to give them plenty of time to recover before freezing weather starts.

Thanks Poppysue,

Our weather promises to drop down to normal September levels (around 70) and then I will be able to get out there and care for my garden. Thanks for the link... it was a
great help!

Looking at my garden, I certainly have my work cut out for me. Sadly, I probably won't have many flowers for the next two years, that bumms me out... but in the long run it will be better and more beautiful.

Janiejoy, if you get them done by about the 15th of September, you should be fine. Would it be possible to divide some and leave some others alone? Maybe that would give you blooms next year.

That's what I planned to do, Pardancanda, after I thought about it for a while, I'm fighting a bronchial/sinus infection and have been a little out of it... but it did come to me that it would make sense to leave some exactly where they are.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

Love
Janie

Janie: If you like iris, keep an eye out for reblooming ones. That group is growing rapidly and I think it is the look of the future in iris. There are many excellent sites for iris growers, just check Google. I like Iris Test Gardens. BTW, the prices vary wildly, so don't get taken.
