It was definitely a busy and quick weekend as usual. Thanks all for the wonderful birthday wishes. For my birthday, dd and I spent Saturday a.m. just hanging out. We went to the Farmers Market and bought some sweet corn, cantaloup and a nice big eggplant. We then went to a few garage sales and then on the Sams to pick up a few more items. DD went to the Nebr game on Saturday night. Dh had his Guard drill. Dh offered to take me to the local small town bar/restaurant for a free meal on Saturday night but I just don't like that place. I know I sound picky but the cigarette smoke is thick and the last couple of times we have been there, the food wasn't that great. I told him I would rather have some of the fish that he brought home from California. So I made my own birthday dinner with the Alaskan salmon he brought home. It was soooooo good.
However, I did request to be taken to Famous Daves on Sunday night. It worked well because we went to look at a heifer west of Lincoln that Julia and dh are interested in buying and Famous Daves is on the west end of Lincoln. They have the best ribs. Any of you ever tried them? Not only are their ribs good, the side dishes are also good. DD and I always get fried apples and bring them home for later. The founder of Famous Daves was on Oprah one day. Quite an interesting story - he grew up on the Lakota Reservation and hit "bottom" several times due to alchohol abuse. He finally picked himself up and his business is now booming. He now sponsors leadership type workshops for troubled teens on the reservations.
This a.m. Julia and dh went to the local Farm Service Agency to sign up for feed assistance of the cows. The cows are in Julia's name. Ruth have you signed up for this? The assistance is open for procucers in Nebr, Wyoming, Colorado and South Dakota. (I think I missed a state). Not totally sure how it works, but you get $23 feed credit for each cow and one bull per 15 cows. The credit goes directly to the feed supplier. The supplier uses USDA surplus dried milk powder in the feed.
It is still too hot - will probably go directly from summer to winter again. Seems that we rarely have a spring or a fall.
Better go - have lots to catch up on again. You all have a good day.
