It's just starting to unfold. I lost a lot of buds on this one to the worms. Makes me so mad.

can't wait to see it fully open!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Looks like the unfolding of a very pretty one.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Kill those bugs! How dare they !

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I wish there was some way to irradicate all worms and bugs from brugs without having to do any spraying or work. I don't want to get rid of all the worms totally, as they are good bird food and some are beautiful butterflies in the end, but I can't see any earthly good that can come from mites. Nice photo and I'll be anxious to see the open bloom also.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

wow that one is going to be special!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Sprayed Neem today. I used a hose-end sprayer and gave them a good shot. I was careful not to get any near the little froggies that live in the bromeliad basket.

(Zone 6a)

Hey....those lil worms have to eat too don't they? LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Cala, Neem won't affect your buds? I could use a good dose of Neem, but I'm not going to do anything to them that would cause my buds to fall now!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

TiG, I didn't use it on the good ones, they didn't have mites, but I'll let you know if any were affected. I used it on some open Frosty Pink blooms. I'll let you know tomorrow.
I'm so tired of the mites and mealy bugs. Just when I think I'e got them wiped out, they come back!! Aphids were munchng on my hibiscus buds too.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

nope, got white flies on a very few, alcohol burned up the last buds, not using that again. just want to treat everything before I bring them in, and will not give up buds! let me know how FP does

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Cala, I was just about to break down and buy that expensive stuff for mites you had mentioned................did that stuff not work?? I have a table of 6 baby brugs that have mites so they are stuck there. I can't get rid of them and willnot take them out in the garden. Should I forget about the expensive stuff and go for the fine oil???

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, NOT fine oil, it burns the leaves really badly. Use Neem Oil, get it at Lowes, it's called Green Light Rose Defense, 99% PURE neem oil. Don't get the Safers brand it's less than 1% neem and isn't worth buying. When you mix the Neem, use warm water. I use it in the evening since it's toxic to bees. The honey bees were all over my brugs yesterday. Guess the dry weather has made it harder for them to find food.
FYI--Neem is great for black spot prevention on roses and is an excellent remedy for powdery mildew on phlox, zinnias, lilac and dogwood. DON'T spray it in the heat of the day, it will spot the foliage. For mites, be sure you get under the leaves.

and Ultra Fine will make all your buds fall off. been there

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

that is what I have ....ultra fine! SO that is the one that is no good? I will get some Neem at lunch then. LOL, an excuse to go to HD or Lowes........both witin 10 minutes of work!! In fact I have 3 HD within 15 minutes.

the ones that have mites are in 4 inch pots, no buds on them!! They have been in 4 inch pots for ages while I use all sorts of biological weapons against those mites........so far they like it here and are staying!! SO Frustrating!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OK, I checked, no damage, even on open flowers. One word of caution though, DO NOT spray it on yellow mandevilla, that one looks terrible this morning. Brugs looked good and when I did the white paper test, no mites were crawling around!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

tell me how much Neem you used on the brugs, don't want to make a mistake

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Well TiG, I was thinking about that. I used a hose end sprayer, filled it up with hot water and just dumped some in, Probably about 4 tablespoons. This stuff still stinks today, but no bugs!!
