Dr. S. opened up tonight. I took this picture standing straight under the plant and I'm 5'9" tall. It is pretty hard to hold the camera still while looking up. Thought I was going to fall over. It isn't a really clear picture, but had to post it for Tonny and Kell anyway.
Dr's night out.
WOW,and here I was all thrilled with mine!
Wow! Is this the first year? How big is it? That is great. congrats beautiful.
looks like you're doing everything right! gorgeous
Wow, and MORE wow!! Beautiful, love it!
Thanks, this is the second year for this plant and the last. Too big to hold over. I do have to say that I think this one and Versi. Orange are my favorite for fragrance. I could just stick my nose in a bloom from either of them and leave it there.
Wow again! You sure did a good job with this one. I can't believe the amount of blooms it has on it.
Very IMPRESSIVE Shirley!! I did not realize how pretty Dr. Seuss is. I saw one here in a nursery and it had an entirely different shape. ALso it looks like it has 2 colors in the bloom, does it?
Talk about a gorgeous tree!
That is so beautiful Miss Brugie. So many blooms and so many more buds. I have to say WOW also. No doubt the fragrance permeates the air around your house.
It is a beauty.
Very pretty. I wish we had smell-o-forum, lol, so everyone would know how good these smell.
Besides their beauty it's the smell of them drifting in the windows that I'm going to miss the most this winter.
Ms Brugie, very nice!. you've done a great job with your brugs.
Shirley,
Super picture.....beautiful plant!!!!
Thanks everyone!! You should see the poor thing today. Drooping in the heat. Hopefully it will be okay when the shade hits it. Kell, the two colors you are seeing is because they just opened. All are gold looking now.
Very pretty, Shirley. Looks different from my Dr. Seuss, but then again.....different climatic and soil conditions:)
Mine is wilted in the 90's sunshine here today too....and yesterday, and the day before...and:)
Owen
another beauty S. :).
Thanks Owen.....our summer has been a rough one this year.
MVR....I sure wish our first frost date was in December. Afraid ours average first frost is the first part of October. Will have to check and see when it is.
Cala, I was going to comment before and forgot......I think Dave should start work on the Smell-O-Forum right away before the brugs are done for the year. :-) Wonder what kind of comments he would have if you went to his forum and put in a request for this? Might be a riot.
I think, I have to add Dr. Suess to my collection - and breeding purposes! Beautiful flowers, Brugie!
Thanks Monika, I do like this plant a lot. It sufferes in the heat, but I think most do. Unfortunately, this one is way to tall to get in the basement or garage unless I let it winter on its side, so I've started another one for next year. Will probably cut this one back and see if I can keep it and let it start again. Maybe looking at a ten footer next year. :-)
Would make a nice alley tree, Brugie. It seems to have more aurea influence as CG.
Wow thats beautiful!
Really pretty - now tho I am truly confused. My so called Dr does not look like this. Yours seems to have shorter blossoms and sort of mottled. I posted a pic of it last year on the id forum - will bring it back up.

PJ, I wish you could see mine in person blooming, it looks just like yours. The blossoms are pretty big and the same color as yours.
But it doesn't look like this one of Brugie's does it???
Azalea... sometime plants do defer in color depending on several factors... some would be soil, temperature, and atmospheric condition. i try to duplicate some of the plants i've lost before. i've noticed they are different here in the desert than the lower regions of So. Calif. just my 2 cents.
Another thing......this picture was first night bloom. Today they are all gold in color and of course, they look larger. I took a picture tonight just at dark, but the batteries were low and it was all fuzzy.
Lovely blooms and so many. Forgive a newby but I couldn't believe that one plant could have so many blooms, got a lot to learn.
I kindof like the way yours looks first night Brugie!!! I'd forgotten how pretty the Dr is until mine started blooming this year.
tiG, I also like the first night look. Now it is just droopy from the heat. Tomorrow in the seventies, so things should look much better. Butterfly is in full bloom now and looks great. I have a lot of them blooming right now with lots more to come. Bet my camera will have fresh batteries the next time I go outside. Last night pictures were a disaster.
Wind, I have another Dr. Suess that had lots more blooms that this one did. Probably about 150 for the flush. It is loaded again, but just starting to bloom. This is a good and easy brug to grow.
Brugie my hat's off to you, they are so beautiful. I have been looking at all the lovely pictures here and the only reason I don't post to all of them is because I would just be repeating myself or sounding like a broken record.
mine doesn't look like that on first night Brugie, if you ever get one that stays that color, think of me!!
Hi Shirley, That is really lovely. I have a Jean Pasco in bloom right now and buds on all my other larger brugs.
including Tropical sunset. I am truly addicted. Between my Hoya's and my Brugmansia's I never have any extra money. I spend it all on plants.
Patricia, I know what you mean. Just to many "gotta haves" out there.
tiG, if you will remind me, I'll stick a couple of cuttings in your box when I mail later this fall. Just can't whack on them when they look like this. :-)
well, I have several Dr's, just not one that looks like this. But I'd hate to grow one just for the first night bloom. oh heck, what am I saying???????? that's the best night!!!
