Erythrina question

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

My friend Ruby started an Erythrina Crista-galli for me 2 years ago. I grew it outside all last summer, brought it into the cool greenhouse for the winter. It's still in there because it has stickers and I can't figure out how to get a 20 gallon pot out with stickers everywhere. Here's my question: How long does it take to bloom? It's about 6 feet tall.

Suzie, I have an Erythrina, it is also still waiting to go in the ground..haven't found the perfect spot for it. Is your friend Ruby's one in the sun or shade? Mine seems to like the shade better, but there is one around here in sun. It is so lovely in bloom. It is a huge tree! I don't know the answer to the bloom question, however, I do know one of the wholesale nuseries I visit has one and it is rather small and it was full of flowers.

Susie, mine is about 3ft and it usually blooms in the early to mid summer. Now it just has all the leaves on it. It is really pretty when it blooms though. It wasn't an easy thing putting it in the ground. Mine lived in a pot for a couple of years and this year I put it in the ground. It gets morning sun, afternoon dappled shade. The sun seems to scorch the leaves.

Ruby's is in morning sun/afternoon shade too and is loaded with blooms in the summer. She also had an Erythrina Bidwilli(did I spell that right) that is the most gorgeous plant I've ever seen.

there is only one tree here that I know of, it is real head turner..I almost ran off the road one day looking at it while driving. Most folks worry about talking and cell phones..ha! I told Jesse if I ever wipe out and I can't tell him what happened to look around, he would find some kind of strange plant in the general area.. :) Either that or a horse..giggle

Cala...we have had seedlings of this tree bloom in pots at 24 inches tall.....they need cool dry winter storage..then warm spring temps and lots of feed. they grow in spurts as a rule. I have two small ones in pots..I don't know why I keep planting new ones each year..I just end up throwing them awawy. Might hang on to these for the beds here next year.

Eclipse, I think that's what I did wrong. Kept it too wet in the winter and not enough food. It's a bit yellowed now. Should I feed it?

Well that puppy is going in the ground next spring!! I'll put it on the south side where the neighbors dogs bother my plants. Let them meet up with the stickers on that bush!!
