May 13 Happy Mother's Day!

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

It has been a long week. On Wednesday, Stan decided that if he was going to get the new stone wall up this year, it was "now or never." Jess was here and she and I stood back and watched Stan moving stones (some of them are 3'x4'x3') with the tractor and highlift and the backhoe (which his other farmer friends tease him about being his lawn tractor!). He had to go down to the creek and get more a couple of times - looking for exactly the right stone. When he got them mostly in, he had Jess get her little broom and sweep dirt off the ones that make up the path on the west side. She was very proud of herself for being Grandpa's helper. I had an appointment with an occupational therapist at 5 and while I was in town, I bought groceries. When I got home at 7:30, Stan had finished the wall, and went down to an old quarry in a pasture that we rent and brought back what was probably intended to be a hitching post stone. I've had my eye on an old stone post back in the neighbor's woods for years, but never got up enough courage to ask if I could have it. It looks great. Now all we need is dirt and plants (like that's a problem!).

The rest of the week was mostly taken up with Jessie feeling miserable from a cold or possibly allergies. She wanted to sit on me, and if she wasn't sitting on me, she wanted me in the same room so she could see me.

Yesterday, and today I'm afraid, were/are going to be taken up with me on pain meds. We have a picnic at Stan's folks after church, but I might not make it to church - those pews can be real killers when my joints act up. Anyway - it's starting off to be a slightly frosty, but beautifully sunny morning. I've got lots of new plants from my secret trade and some really great Gerbera Daisies that I just couldn't resist. I bought Stan's mom a white bleeding heart to replace the one she lost when they moved and my mom gets one of the dark red daisies and 2 e-cards - I couldn't make up my mind so I sent both. Julia's going to be my garden slave for a couple of afternoons and Melissa says I need to pick out a plant from her. Ain't life grand??

Hope you all have a lovely day,
Kathleen
