Unwanted guest at my place.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I have an unbloomed hybrid aurea that was topped!! by this critter..a sphinx moth catterpillar. He ate three whole leaves in on day and a night. He's in captivity at the moment..still deciding his fate.LOL

HE IS HUMONGOUS!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i haven't seen that kind i don't think. when i find them that big i figure they are almost through eating anyway. butterfly cats i put on frosty pinks. but those junior sized hummer moth cats get squashed!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kyle, you know how I am with those critters. I have chills going up and down my spine. Just can't touch them. I'm afraid they would just have gourmet eating here until the BT got them.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

He ate a bunch here..some birds gonna feast tomorrow!!!!YUM YUM!! LOL

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh my! That thing is huge. You're lucky he didn't devour the whole plant.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Looks like a Waved Sphinx, it has 7 stripes/lines. http://www.ag.auburn.edu/dept/ent/bulletins/wavedsphinx/photo1.htm If it is, here's what he makes. http://www.ag.auburn.edu/dept/ent/bulletins/wavedsphinx/photo2.htm

Dang baby!!! I remember these from a few years back...get real big as moths..Alas this one may not!!LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It is so pretty! Take it to a neighbor's house who lets their garden go so they will not care or notice that they have a new mouth to feed! That is what I do with ones that are too pretty to murder!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I put them on the compost pile and let them eat the old tomato plants there. but I don't let the mid to small size ones live, just the bigger ones. like arlene, I figure they're almost through anyway. sorry about the brug!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I pick them off and give them a toss. I figure if they make it fine, sometimes the parasitic wasps get them too.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

I do have one of those moths around. Saw it on the side of the house about 4' up from the brug plant. What will it do to my plants?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

The moth won't hurt them, it's the caterpillars that eat them. I had one that stripped an acnistus plant in 3 days.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

if you have different brugs blooming, it will pollinate them for you

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Uh oh, I think I have a possible versicolor peach (nursery bought) and the one pink (nursery also) I posted awhile back about to open again with about 10 buds on it. They should open in the next couple days. Might have a possible arborea (ebay) getting ready to open also.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

You guys all seem to like this thing - it gives me the creeps. It's massive! EWW - don't even want to think about it. Shiver!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Liz, aren't you the one that had barbarians at your gate??

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I heave those disgusting things in the salt chuck - would never, ever, hold one in my hand.
This is a real close (UGH) second.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

salt chuck?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Liz, I'm with you, no way I'd ever touch one

FSH, TX

Absolutely beautiful. You treat that girl right and she'll pollinate each and every flower for you. Just have to whisper in her ear what to cross em to.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i don't touch the hummer moths, i figure they'll stab me with the horn, and the other kind around here has snake eyes, looks like a baby rattlesnake!
ms kell, i'll have you know i let my garden go!!! it is pitiful! i have weeds setting seeds taller than me, and holes in everything. this is the worst i have ever been. the only way is up!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

gee Arlene, and you are a young thing........wait till you get to be my age!! All weekend I was so busy and at the end I had accomplished NOTHING!! I have a double case of CRS!!!

Hamilton, Canada

That is disgusting ewwwwwww! Don't those things get high and eating brug leaves? Imagine a hallucinating catepillar...lol.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Joydie, I used to feed them to the turtles till I thought maybe the brug leaves that they had eaten would make them poisonous to the turtles. That would be funny, a high cat!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

kell, my feeble excuse.... had the efudex on the face and couldn't get in the sun for a month in june...not allowed to use sunscreen, and then it's so much more fun to walk around and look at flowers blooming. and i have never had so many butterflies. i feel like a butterfly farmer. would you like me to send you some longwing zebra butterfly eggs? lol

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sounds great!! I went to a paid park once that had a butterfly walk-in huge planted cage that was such fun. The butterflies would sit on you. The zoo in San Diego had a hummingbird planted cage that as I recall you could walk thru. For years after I dreamt of having one of my own, a hummingbird enclosed porch with a dirt floor so you could plant it. I used to plan it as I fell asleep.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

ms kell, i thought i was the only one that made plant plans while falling to sleep!

Kell, "salt chuck" is the ocean here in Canada. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Liz, I never claimed to be the brightest bulb in the Dave's socket!!!

Arlene, my dream life is better than my real life............sad to say.....LOL

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Kell . . . take the time to work on making those dreams come true!!!

FSH, TX

Joydie,
I think your thinking of Alice....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Brugnanny, I would be arrested!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Brugcrazy,I thought you were salting my DH Chuck!

eclipe's I think he's pretty...but not on the brugs!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

You guys have lost it.
Kell, are you not working today either? I finally realize that I'm doing this wrong. You get paid! for doing what I do. You've got the system figured out!
I'll never tease you again. (OK - for a few hours anyway)
