maya crosses

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

has anyone set seeds on maya? i was so excited when E9 bloomed, i rushed over and put her pollen on maya, and it took!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have two pods on mine, but I don't know what they are. Here is a question: Does the variegation come through in the cross or is it like all the other variegated plants, has to come from cuttings?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

think it has to come from cuttings.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is what I thought, but why not look stupid and ask anyway. :-)

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It can come through by seeds also. But often, the seedlings are lacking chlorophyll and die after germination.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Maybe I should go ahead and let those seed pods mature and see what I might have. Thanks Monika.

Monika, that`s great news!!! I have Maya coming with one single flower this week and I want to cross to something nice and hope for the variegation to come true in at least a few seedlings. HHas Maya the colored flower as geno- or phenotype? Well, I know it`s its phenotype *lol* But will the color travel to the offspring as well or will most seedlins be white?

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Tonny, this is a good "question".....I also would like to know. I have about 30 seedpots at my Mayas, you will have to help seedout, smile.

*ROFLOL* Ludger! Here I thought I was crazzy. *lol* 30 pods? *lol* I am impressed! Yes, I will like to help you seed out and I hope I can count on your help too, when my pods are ready. *lol* I will mail you a bunches of everything. btw. your aurea took this time. *lol* I had difficulties making it hold anything, but there is ONE precious pod and its growing.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Ludger, you are killing me!!!! what are they crossed with?

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Arlene, I crossed my Mayas with: Herrenhäuser Gärten,my Avalon,Flamenco, Velvet Lady, Pink Candida, some seedlings from me and some others.

Ludger, do you have a photo of your pink candida or can you describe the floer to me? I think I know the leaves by now. *lol*

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Tonny, sorry, I dont have a pic. My pink candida has some seedpots and is growing in shadow ( my mistake, one seedling is growing faster than I thougt) not more flowers. Next year I will pant it on an other place in the yard.

Ludger those are some great crosses. I hope you get at least a few new plants out of them as they sound wonderful.

Ludger, its okay. I have two small buds on one of them. The leaves are different from any x candida I know. Almost elliptic. btw. Lenes brother Erik arrived Sunday and I gave him some of the smaller, blooming Brugs. Here is hoping, that he gets as addicted to them as anyone of us. *lol* I will also stuff his car full of cuttings. I briefed him in how to root questions and where to take cuttings. He like the tree shape best. :-) He likes the suaveolenses best, but that could be because he hasn`t seen the double x candida. He look very much forward to Gelber Riese opens in a few days. Its a straight stem tree more than 6 ft. high.
