Glossy Privet (Ligustrum lucidum)
You've sure got some different plants down there in Texas, Wingnut. I don't think we have any Privets here... privies, but no privets. The leaves are sure waxy. Does it bloom? Guess I ought to go back to the PDB & look it up, huh.
LOLOL, Weez! Yep, they got blooms! But only in early spring. :( They're a loose, sort of conical spray made up of small white flowers. I like them, but some don't like the smell. I can't remember if I took that pic just before it bloomed when it had buds all over it or right after when it was forming seed heads, but you can see the basic shape of the lighter things on the outside. And the leaves ARE waxy ~ Mama calls these "wax leaf ligustrums".
I think this PDB forum is great. The more I see of the plants others grow in faraway places, the more I want to travel. DH wants to go on vacation to relax... somewhere with Pina Coladas and a lounge chair. I'm always too homebound to agree to go anywhere. Now I'm beginning to want to visit other people's gardens and woodlands and beaches and... well, you get the idea. I'd pack my suitcases with trowels, snippers, little baggies, labels, and my camera!
I've got a couple lounge chairs and a blender. ;) I can see us now ~ sitting in the chairs in a shallow part of the creek, basking in the shade of the pecan trees, letting our feet dangle in the cool water, watching the smoke from the BBQ pit lazily drift across the yard. This, of course, after we've already raided my garden and creeks for things to clip and root and pot and plant! LOLOLOL!
Wingnut, don't forget to imagine me with the front of my 3XL teeshirt covered with dirt and berry juice, maybe a bit of barbecue sauce on my face, the flies licking it up, my head tilted back, loud snores emminating from my open, uptilted mouth...my grubby fingers clutchin a bag full of plants and my other hand still grasping the trowel...life is good!
ROTF! You saw me last weekend!!!!!!!!!! Where were you hiding?!?!?! C'mon, give me a hint. I have a mudpie waiting with your name on it!
Gosh, Wingnut, maybe we're long-lost sisters! We could get ourselves on 'Unsolved Mysteries'. Maybe they'd fly me to Texas for a big family reunion... I could bring my trowel... you could light the barbie and start up the blender...
Forget Unsolved Mysteries, girl ~ Maury or Sally would be a better bet for a free-for-you-we'll-pay-for-it-but-let-us-film-the-meeting trip! HA! AND forget "me" OR "you" lighting the barbie and blender ~ what the hell are husbands for? Better yet, I'll invite my girlfriend Sherry's Louisiana-native dad Richard over ~ that man can cook AND make a mean jug of wine! He's adopted me and am I glad! It takes work to keep up this figure, you know. And one can always use a big jug of blackberry wine ~ goes great in the blender with ice and lemon juice, then poured over Sprite. Yep, him do make it STOUT! LOLOL! I can do JD shots, but have to take it easy on Richard's Reserve. HAH!
See, you and I will be too busy to cook ~ off raiding my garden and my neighbor Rhonda's garden and my creeks and her creek and ...
Sounds like a plan, Wingnut. What is our topic for Maury or Sally? It has to be shocking, or they won't want us. How about "estranged twin sisters that wear large teeshirts and play in the dirt". We might have to add..."in the nude" just to get them to look at our request. How about "two sisters who mud wrestle in Texas"?
ROTF! PERFECT! SURELY they'll want us with the hook of "estranged sisters"! The sister mudwrestlers here in Redneck Country are "bosom buddies" if you get my drift. *grin* Okay, we'll add "in the nude" to get their attention, but once they see me, they'll probably say "in their clothes". ;) Or how about "Heterosexual, Un-dysfunctional, Well-adjusted Women Who Tell the Truth Bluntly But With Tact and Don't Want to Cheat on Their Husbands"? Never seen THAT one before! HA!!!!!
Oh, wow! It's raining!!!! I can't believe it! Woo-hoo!! Tomorrow, the low spot in the driveway will be perfect for wrestling!
I think you're on to something, Wingnut! Non-disfunctionals! What a concept. We, too had a pair of sisters in Seward, but they weren't mud wrestlers. It seems that is about all they weren't into together... the bar crowd used to call them the "Sandwich Sisters"... pretty sad.
Yep, you got my drift. ;)
Y'all need to get down here someday! Maybe by that time, I'll have a new calf to show you. *grr-grumble-grin*
I haven't been out of Alaska for about 6 years, and I haven't been more than 20 miles out of Seward for about 6 months, and I haven't been a quarter mile from the house in about 6 days, so you can see I'm not much of a traveler! How-some-ever, if I even get to Texas, and my radiator doesn't boil over, I'm stoppin' by!
Man, you sound more and more like me all the time!!!!! The last time I left the ranch was yesterday ~ had to take Mom to get her a new bed. If she didn't have to go, I wouldn't have crossed that cattleguard for sure. Before that, it was probably three weeks ago when I had to bop into Marble 15 miles away for groceries. I hated to leave the place even then, but thought it was time ~ dinner the night before was pancakes with jelly (didn't have syrup) and a pork chop. Kenny wanted bacon, but that's as close as I could get.
Funny that I enjoyed driving to New York State with Kenny so much! We both dream of driving to ElPaso and taking a sharp right, heading up through the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado, taking a left after Montana, hitting coastal Oregon, making another right, following the coast north, maybe jumping off at Vancouver Island, and ending up in Alaska. When we finally decide to do that (seriously, it just may be in a few short years), I WILL call you!! Maybe we can meet the king crab boats for dinner?
You're always welcome up here, Wingnut! You can always find me at home!
LOLOL!
The plant pictured here is Ligustrum lucidum, not L. japonicum.
Hi, nifty. I don't think Wingnut is following these threads of late, so I'll contact admin to see if they can check this out.
