This is my Herrenhauser Garten with one nice bud and up in the Y'd area there are about 8 more smaller buds up to 1-1/2 inches long. I'm getting itchy just waiting on this one and hope it makes it to maturity. Susie sent me this small cutting earlier this spring and it has made it this far. After hearing that it takes two years to bloom, I was in shock to see buds. Heard that on another brug forum.
Slow tonight.so here is a picture.
looks like it's gonna open for you congrats!
Brugie,
Oh congrats on the buds and post pictures when it blooms.
Wish you luck! How did those leaves get to be so BIG??
Nice bud! I hope it makes babies for you! LOL I posted on mail call that package arrived today!
Thanks,
Rebecca
Brugie,
good luck. Will keep our fingers crossed.
Thanks you two. I'm just hoping it will stay on.
Arlene, what am I doing wrong with Culebra? It has buds, but now it is losing its leaves. I've treated it for mites a few days ago, but today the leaves are really yellowing and dropping. I don't want to lose my buds. Any ideas?
Brugie, I'll keep my fingers crossed you will have a flower soon. My two HG are beautiful 4ft plants but don't even have a Y. One got chopped up tonight and one will get another chance. LOL. Good job.
Oh Snow, didn't it hurt when you had to chop? That is going to be a little hard for me this year since I have so many new ones. Even harder is tossing duplicates and those that I don't need. However, maybe someone else will be able to get some good from them. What are your night time temps now? Still pretty nice here. Maybe down into the low to mid sixties.

Gosh, there were a bunch of posts that jumped in there while I was writing that first one. Then when I clicked on here, it brought me clear down to the bottom. Almost missed all your posts. Thanks Rebecca. Hope it grows for you.
Time will tell. Just hope I get to at least see some bright orange coming from the calyx before something might happen. Have to get a grip here. Positive attitude should help, right? Have a good one everyone!!
Hibiscus, I didn't do anything to get the big leaves. Treat them all the same.
Brugie, What's going to hurt is chopping or pulling up the ones I haven't seen bloom yet that have Y's and small buds but no time to bloom. :( I just don't know where to start. There's so much to be done in a short time. DH is working this weekend and I will have to start getting them ready for winter tomorrow. Nights have been in the 40's this week and days in the 70's. Leaves are coming off the Maple tree so there's not much time left.
Snow, that is so sad. Wish you could move south some so you would have more summertime. I even want to go farther south, but I think I'm stuck here for now. Are you taking cuttings from the flowering region? You might then see them bloom in the greenhouse before it gets too cold. I should be able to compare Isabella and Golfito in a couple of weeks. Might go ahead and make a cross to see if a pod forms and holds. Should be able to tell by Christmas if they are one and the same or even sooner. Hope you are taking care of your back and not working too hard. Maybe we will all get to see pictures from inside the greenhouse again. I really enjoyed your spring pictures.
ms brugie, i am the wrong person to ask about culebra!! mine had a lot of buds, then went south! it's getting leaves good again, i am hoping that when the weather cools a little it will bloom!!!
Hi Brugie......what a delicate bud for a double! I am as anxious as you to see this oe!!
Think it has a lot of time to go yet Kell. Can't wait to see it start getting fat. That word usually isn't in my vocabulary, but this one needs to get some fat on it.
;-)
S,
Keeping my fingers crossed on this one!!!
Brugie, I keep my fingers crossed that the buds will open for you.
GO HG GO!!!
I have a routine now......I go out in the morning and check HG to be sure the bud is on, then to Culebra for the same check. Water plants......go through the day, water plants again, and then before I close up shop for the night, I'm back to check buds on HG and Culebra. So far both plants are holding them. I can only hope. At least both plants have more smaller buds to follow.
Typical Mom behavior, Brugie!
This is exciting . . can't hardly wait Miss Brugie.
Hey, I broke my routine and checked the bud after lunch, and guess what I found? Two more almost exactly like it. So, things are looking up here. The last two are maybe a half inch shorter and still standing up, so it won't be long before I'll have to watch closely for even more. Can't wait. Won't it be a kick to get a bloom on this one? I'll be very disappointed if it ends up being Amarillo Paja.... :-)
