Is anyone up for a Canna swap? I would be glad to coordinate it. Say in October? Maybe 1 plant boxed for the winter? To be shipped after the frost? I have a Canna glauca 'Panache' that is getting really big!
Canna swap?
Woooo Hooooooo.....I think this is great. Count me in!
Would love to do this, for named Canna's only.

im in too!
me too
OK, 1 Canna with it's species and cultivar named. The Cannas will be shipped according to everyone's frost date. So some will be shipped sooner than others. The end of the sign-up period is about October 1st. On October 1st I will ask for mailing addresses to be put into a hat. And that week we will know who to send to.
Send me you email address now.

Me too!!!
Count me in also! Can always find room for more cannas!
Does anybody object to trading 2 Cannas, as most swappers have more than 1 they would like to swap?
Me too, me too.
I think I can manange 2.
I can manage 5 or 6. Tall, intermediate, and dwarfs.

I am sure we can match up with the number of plants.
I would like to get in on this one. Thanks, Debby
Hi Debby, send me an email and you will be on the list. Several have said they want to trade more than one (as many as 5). Whatever you have for trade is fine. We will have to match up some for even trades.
Golddog, I think you might want to post this in the Tropicals Forum also.

Here I go again....I just CAN'T resist!!! I'll trade two (2) named canna varieties.
I can come in for two or three, and one found one with no name.
Count me in too please. I can do 3 or 4. What about those of us that are still hot and blooming past Oct. We are still warm into Dec here.
rub that little tidbit in Dee.......
Good question. I take it your Cannas stay in the ground year round. Do they ever die back? How and when would you ship one of your Cannas to, say, someone in Pennsylvania?
I thought from October through November, and even December would give everyone time enough to swap. I am in zone 6, looking at a frost around October 15th. I can then ship within a week. We will have to be patient for delivery. Any suggestions are welcome.
Mine will die back after the first frost, too....but that is usually Mid Nov. to early Dec....but, this is Texas, and ya never know......Chili today.....Hot Tamale....

Sorry CC, I just couldn't help myself.
Mine stay in the ground year round, they do however die back, sometimes we get frost in Dec, but usually in Jan. I could dig some up in Nov, and just cut the stalks back, but this has been a strange year here so, I don't want to even say this but it might get cooler earlier, we were hotter earlier, so go figure.
Dee, you anticipated my answer. I couldn't understand the problem: chop 'em off, dig 'em up, put 'em in the mail. No one needs to wait until November, December or JANUARY!!
That's just getting silly. While some people are still waiting for a frost to kill off their stalks, others will be in four feet of snow.
I would prefer to receive mine when I can still put them in the ground as soon as I receive them.
Let's stop the pussyfooting and do it next week.
PlanterRik, we would like to get a few more participants, and waiting until the middle or end of the month will hurt no one, and will give the organizer time to match wishes and wants. Patience is a virtue, as well as a necessity.

The original timing was no problem, but when I read posts about postponing until December or January -- rather than impatient, I was amused by the absurdity and more inclined to move on than to wait until then.
These are tropical plants that will live throughout the year unless something intercedes. I see no reason why the intercessor must be frost. Let it be the gardener who has decided to trade them. There is no difference.
PlanterRik: The intercessor is frost for us up north. For when it frosts, they are through for the year and we have to dig them up. Until it frosts, we like to savor their beauty as long as we can. We can get our first frost here in Iowa by the end of September, or the first week in October. Then it is a long time to wait for spring.
What is the canna "Panache" what color, tall?
Hibiscus,
Here is a link to one of my favorite Cannas.

How's this coming along, Golddog??

In the process of matching up 2, possibly 4 traders that have unique requests.
Still waiting for a response from 2 or 3.
Looks like for the most part we will be trading 2 named Cannas.
I should have it finalized October 1st.
I will know how many so far by tomorrow and let you know.
Always looking for more swappers!
Did you ever decide on the dates for shipping? My cannas stay in the ground all year and I would like to get the "swaps" in the ground before the first frost if possible (around the first of Nov.) :-)
Toadlily
I would like to be added to the canna swap for 5 canna varieties.
