Odd Habits

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

For starters, our eldest female dog Sarah lifts her leg when she urinates. Buddy, our year-old-ish male beagle does not. Emma pees like a normal female, at least, but she has another odd habit. She likes to take her chew toy and put it in one of Howie's discarded shoes to chew on it. She doesn't chew the shoe, just the toy. She apparantly finds the olfactory experience heightened, as well as finding the shoe to be a handy prop for her bone. I have other pictures, but this one shows you what I mean quite well. Doesn't it look like she's kissing her beloved bone?

Actually, we'd just told our friend about what she does when she walked up to him with her bone, plopped down, and put her paws (and the bone) on top of his outstretched legs -- and sneakers. Weird dog!

Our old Siamese cat Elliott used to put a favorite little wind-up toy in my shoes, too. He'd carry it over and plunk it down in there, then play with it in the shoe. He also used to stick his head inside the shoe and kick his back feet against it...Maybe this total immersion in sneaker odor was too much and fried his little kitty brain.

What odd/weird habits do your pets have?
