Drug website has a number of brug photos

San Francisco, CA

I found a drug site on the web called the Erowid Vault and I would like to mention that it has a large number of photos and some care tips that people may want to look at. Also there are stories of what happened to people who made brug flowers and leaves into tea, and most of them went insane for three days. It kind of made me nervous to even touch my brug after reading those stories. You can find it by searching in goggle, the site is huge, it even has an index of plants and herbs.

I've cut on mine, pinched them, trimmed them, slit the pods and the only time any part of the plant bothered me was when I cut a leaf above my head and the juice dripped in my eye. The juice contains atropine which dialates the pupil. It took almost 24 hours to go completely down, but no harm done. I just had to wear sunglasses for a whole day because the light hurt.

Most of Erowid pics are mislabeled as to species though....

Calalily, yes, I knew about the eyes being hurt, by this plant, the people who drank this tea had eye pain and some could not even open thier eyes at all. They could not face any day light for days. I think I should wear my rubber gloves when I pick off the dead flowers.

The photos were very beautiful but I did not know they were mislabled. I can't tell a brug from a datura.

Bug Girl,You must do what you feel comfortable with. I myself when a scissors hasn't been handy have pinched leaves and flowers with my fingernails and broke off branches with bare hands. There are more plants in my outside garden and houseplants in my house that are just as, if not more dangerous.Look up poisonous plants on Google and you will be amazed. Unless someone is stupid or ignorant enough to eat or drink them I really don't see the danger.

Yes, in fact I have a book called plants that poison, so I do know that a lot of them very poisonous. Normally, I just like to wear Playtex Rubber gloves when gardening because it keeps my hands from getting dirty, but som times I forget. I was thinking what if I rubbed my eyes after touching the angles trumpet?

Also I would really like to get a pink angles trumpet, but I only see them very rarely. I know they are hard to find. I found some at a Monterey Nursery, but they turned out to be wholesale only.

I had to spray my angles trumpet for spider mite, and so nothing in my garden is safe to eat, so I never grow edible crops. The spider mite created leaves that were very curly and small. The plant has still not fully recovered. It seems very dry in the leaves, and not lush like the photos of other people's I see posted here. I give it a lot of water, but it has always been very dry. It is a yellow flowered one kind of common. There are many just like it in Golden Gate Park.

I'd no more eat a Brug, than a daff, or foxglove, or water hyacinth, or a Christmas Poinsettia!! Now I might have a margaurita made with Cactus juice......LOL!

Sounds like my kind of flower "eyes" LOL

Bug_Girl, almost every flower, or plant which we grow in our gardens, flower-beds etc, are toxic, some more some less, but to be poisoned by your own plants, you would have to actually munch on a couple of the real crackers like Brugs, Daturas, Foxgloves or Monkshood. It wouldn't be advisable to lick your fingers, after crushing a Datura leaf in your hand either ;-)

btw, did you check out the Bearshare site which I suggested in your thread on computer talk? http://davesgarden.com/s/320770.html

Try it out, it's the best!!

Tomato and potato leaves are poisonous as are the leaves on Rhubarb but we eat the stalks.

In fact, I had Bear share installed but I could not find much on it, that was before you mentioned it, so I deleted it to save space.

Actually right now, I am not looking for any thing in particular. I have not even used a file sharing service lately. I don't down load movies because it is so cheap to rent and it takes a lot time with the computer on wasting power. I also don't like watching a movie on the computer. What I miss was Audio Galaxy had stuff like Indian Tribal Music.
