I mean it - never seen anything like it. They have a stranglehold on all my shrubs and flowering their little heads off. I'll phone Erin to see when you are next in VA again!! You must come and see how we've taken care of your babies!! :-)
Tim!! Passifloras taking over!!
Louisa, they do tend to go crazy with growth this time of year. I think they love hot weather.
I'll be back up there late Sat. night, and will remain in VA for the next three weeks. I'll try to ID as many of your vines as possible.
Tim,
Also wanted to let you know my passifloras from your seeds are doing well. Foetida purple continues to flower and grow and is setting fruit. How do I know when the fruit is ready?
First time with Passifloras.
That's great Tim! Look forward to seeing you. Cala I think you are right about them liking the heat and especially the humidity and we have certainly had our fair share of that.
Joy,
The fruits will turn orange, and the hairy bracts will turn brown and drop-off. You can wait till the fruits fall off or pick them. GIve them a try, just pop the pod and suck out the inside, a bit seedy, but since the seeds are so small you can eat them too.
Tim you mean these are edible? Oh my grand daughter is going to just love this. I'm grooming her to be my "Garden Princess" and to enjoy the love of gardening. I've almost given up on my children...LOL.
Tim I have one that's yellow. I tugged on it today and it was still firmly attached. I was wondering if they were edible. The pink foetide hasn't made any fruits yet.
Hi, hello! In the latest Martha Stewart(Special on Decorating) issue, there is a darn good article on Passies! very interesting! happy reading! Elaine
Cala what's the diameter of the pink foetide flower? Foetide purple is only about an 1 inch or so across, but it flowers continually and my plant is about 3 feet tall. Let me know if you still want all the passifloras as the plants are now over a foot tall in the pots I set aside for you.
