Hello all, my name is Tracey, I live in southeast Missouri zone 6b, everything has to come in for the winter, thus begins my dilemma. I lost all of my older trees last year after surgery, when my husband had to bring in my trees, they went to the shop instead of the heated pump house. Now I have managed to replace a very few of my trees, and a wonderful person is sending me some of her treasures. I did find something called a Velvet pink, are any of you familiar with this one haven't heard of it myself but thought I would try, a friend brought it back from Alabama for me. It lost all but very few small leaves in the trip, very hot trailer. Now I have repotted it and it is coming back to life, but the silly thing is putting on buds when it needs more leaves, do I dare take off the buds, I want it to get healthy but I still don't know what I actually have, it is about 4' tall with 3 main stems. The buds look like a cross between a Versi and a Charles Grim, the leaves are smooth and shaped like my Ecuador pink and a little fuzzy. What do you think! HELP
Newbie need help
Leave the buds. The plant will drop them if need be.Please post a picture when this one blooms.I havn't heard of it before.
I will post a pic as soon as it opens so maybe someone can identify it. I was completely shocked to see buds, was hoping to see more leaves first, if it doesn't put on a lot of leaves before winter I may takes cutiing to be sure I can aleast keep some of it alive.
welcome Tracey. we're a crazy bunch here, you'll get used to us. We're definitely the liveliest brug bunch anywhere! They don't have to have a lot of leaves, I stripped all but the newest ones when I had whiteflies so bad. And still keep all the lower ones off.
If you don't feel comfortable .... why not just leave one bud to see what color it gives you, and pinch off the others?

Welcome from me too. you gotta give those buds a chance, i think JT is right, they'll fall off if they need to.

I just knew you'd love it here. It's a very nice place to be. It's addicting though and you'll find that with every spare minute you'll be jumping on the computer to see what's happening at DG.The dust bunnies will start multiplying under your tables, the dishes won't get done, the laundry will get done between each new post etc.
snow, have you been in my house while I wasn't looking???
LOL tiG. Just looking around my house. I found a trick I'll share with you. If you kick the dustbunnies under the couch when DH isn't looking you won't have to vacuum every day. :)
Welcome to Dave's Tracey. You will love it here. It's like a big happy family. The people on here are the best.
Debbie from Michigan
Hey Snow, how did you know how my day went, got a load in the washer and dryer, and whites on the table to be folded right now. Paperwork up to my eyeballs, due in the morning, oh well it is hiding the supper dishes I tore myself away from the 'puter long enough to cook, (don't have the greenhouse up yet so I had to cook)hehe! Dust bunnies what are those there be bears in them woods.
Hi Tracy! Well you are doing well with your velvet pink so far. No one has predicted it is a Frosty so maybe you have lucked out!
Glad to see you have recovered and back to your gardening! You will love Dave's.
Welcome to Dave's. I should warn you to watch out for Kell, she has this thing about pink brugs and your's may be in danger, lol.
Snow, I kicked the dustbunnies under a chair, the air conditioner leaked in the floor(drain was stopped up) and the sub floor had to be replaced there. When DH moved the chair, there was the evidence. I blamed it on Wally(the dog). We had a storm yesterday so I did get a bit of housework done(can one get lightening struck from holding a wet mop?) because it's not good to have the computer on during a storm!!
TLynn, do you have a list of the ones you'd ordered? I bet as a collective group, we have them.
Welcome - this is a brug group with a sense of humor. Weird, but funny. Especially when the sun goes down. Beware of Kell - she's the nightshift loon. The rest of us just play straight man to her.
I will have to look around and find it, some of them I did manage to find, the really hard ones like Tiara, arborea, ocre, oh heck I can't spell this one "Culebra" I know that is not right, fine time to loan my book out, anyway I know those were on there, and rosalie, hehe! A couple of really nice people from here are helping me out with cuttings, suprize boxes and boy am I excited, can't hardly sit still. When I find my list, if I post will the come? hehe!
wait, are those listed the ones you have???????????
You have these???
Culebra...very fine choice indeed. Rosalie, Ocre,...boy you have some kind of taste. Here's wishing you luck on these hybrids.
No way, that is what I had ordered, I wish I had those. There was more. Now you know why I kept getting so excited!I haven't seen a brug yet that I didn't fall in love with, except maybe shredded white to wierd for me. Brugman are these hard to find? What about loreley, maya, monte blache, found my list. I will put it back, I guess a girl can dream.... I have seen some very beautiful pic's here.
you almost became the very most most popular person in the US Tracey!!! LOL!! but we would have used you for your brugs:)
I would let use me, if I had them I would share. OK depressed again, thanks snow and glory if it wasn't for you I think I might cry... At least I will have beauty around me next year, hey tiG counting on you to, thanks everyone for your help the buds are a little bigger I resisted popping them off, but the plant looks so funny with buds and no leaves.
Maya is easy - the rest, between so-so and not a chance. Talk to Barbara, Cala, beg if you have to- pay for them. They aren't regularly tradeable.
dont' get depressed, we don't have them either!!!! and you're with the best! so there.
You let me know what you get before winter comes here, and I know I can fill holes in your collection. Might not be those big names, but pretties none the less!
Pretty is good for me!
I have Jean Pasco if you're interested.
Hi Tracey, welcome aboard, you will have lots of fun here. You know I have to say all are really like family, let's see, I have a daughter named Kell, I have a daughter named Traci Lynn oh and I have my very own computer slave, lol.
Ok you guys, been thinking about changing my name, to maybe FLTraveler instead of DeeinFL, seeing how I don't seem to be spending much time at home. Yea, that's the ticket, I could start posting as that and maybe get more brugs, hmmmm.
Dee, you could be a newbie!! Hey everyone, lets send FLTraveler all our unknown pinks!!
Oh Boy, I just love pink, if I post picture can you tell me if they are Frosty Pink or Insignis Pink or, or, or. LOL
Sorry dee,I have my pinks ready to ship to Kill,or Kull,or Bell, thats it kell-belle,I know shes building that pepto garden
Cc, just the other day I told Brugie I was changing my name to Kell's bells............. so you are close.
I just realized that Kell gets the last word in on every thread - every night. Why do you think that is?
and usually no one posts after me.............. what does that say Liz??? I feel put out at night like the cats..........
LOL
