Sunray
Sunray for Studley
Barb,
Beautiful plant...my leaves are yellowish and I have given it everything under the sun to darken them up.
Barb, Could you put this picture in the Brug database. I was going to put mine in there tonight but you have a better pic of the flowers.
Mine has dark green velvety leaves? Has 2-3 "y's", has not bloomed for me yet.
Definately a different critter than my photo.
Glory,
That is my plant last year. This is the 12 foot Sunray that has not bloomed this year. It had two trunks that were huge but one broke off with the last wind storm.
The leaves will not get dark. I kept thinking mine was sick and feed and sprayed it with everything. It is just going to have pale green leaves. The only thing I didn't try was putting some lime in the soil. Not enought time in the day.
Hibiscus, My leaves are not velvety--Glory, how about yours?
I'm not Glory but my leaves aren't velvety either. Also they have stayed a lighter green.
I had this brug last year and the leaves were light and the bloom looked like the above, but more pale and only two blooms. I wasn't all that happy with it, so gave some cuttings out and tossed the rest. It just didn't grow well for me. Might just have been the year.
Forgot to mention that mine didn't have velvety leaves either.

I have this and mine aren't velvety either and the leaves are a lighter color no matter what I do to it.
Barb,
Mine aren't velvety either.
I am so glad to read this about Sunray because I just knew that something was wrong with mine. Very pale leaves and I have tried everything to green it up but to no avail. I was actually wondering today if I might have done too much. It was a little greener early in the summer but not by much. It also bloomed a couple blooms in May-June but not since then.
Mine too are very pale. I'm going to give it iron today to see if it will green up. It finally bloomed for me. In the Jungle House, it bloomed early and the leaves were a beautiful green. I wonder if it's too much sun? I have one still in the JH, but it's no better. It's got to be 10ft tall and has several y's but no blooms. I'm using that one for a trellis for Blue Bouquet PV, at least it's got flowers!!
Cala, When I had them all in the GH Sunray stood out from the rest because if it's lighter green leaves. It's been outside all summer in the barrel in front of my garage and the leaves are still light.I put it out front because it was blooming like crazy. It was just finishing blooming when you came to visit and I looked yesterday and it has more new buds coming.I think the lighter leaves are normal. Where's Kyle. This is his baby.
Sunray has Jamaica yellow as a parent..and so its leaves are always kind of a washed out color..thats normal..they will never be real deep green. So save the iron suppliments... :-)
