Bird's-nest Orchid

This plant was on a site in Surrey where i'm doing dormouse work. It's a fascinating saprophyte - living on decayed plants and animals. It lives in partnership with a particular fungus.
This is a fruiting stem, it flowers in cMay.

I don't know why I always find this one creepy when I see a picture of it (never seen it in the flesh so to speak)! Good find Philomel :)

It was a shame, i tried taking it by natural light, but it was just too shady. The flash lends it an even greater air of spookiness LOL :)
