Blue Egyptian Lotus

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

This is the waterlily from africa that was revered by the Pharoahs of Old Egypt. Is is under study for its supposed curative as well as cultural qualities.I love this flower..this pic shows its shape as found on numerous papyri and tomb walls.Awesome fragrance and only opens for a short time each day.Closes near 2 pm .This plant is a true tropical waterlily and not a Lotus as in Nelumbo types.

The caerulea (blue lotus of the nile)does smell wonderful. I can smell mine all at one side of our pond when it blooms. One of my first tropicals and one of my favorite. Produces a lot of seed also. I use it to try my hands at making some crosses.
