2 days ago it was thriving..........today it is wilting! This is the 4th datura I have lost after just 1 bloom. I have been very careful not to overwater this one. Do you think I have a fungus in the soil?? Any suggestions?

It is all Arlene's fault. She insulted them and they must have taken it to heart!

woe is me!

ms kell, i love weeds. you didn't tell them what i said did you????? aren't brugs more fun????????

Kell, I must honestly say, that I don`t know. This year I lost several and all suddenly wilted down within a few days. I have looked for bugs in the soil, but the root systems seem to be okay, but not very welldeveloped. The first thing I suspected was of course virus coming from one of the Brugs. Many Brugs will survive a virus infection and within a month the plant is growing as healthy as ever, but anything, that gets infected by it will either develop the same symptoms, that disappear or they will die down. Now I don`t think it is virus. I took juice samples from several Brugs and applied to healthy Daturas and not a single symptom showed. I think, the main course that they wilt down is either fungus or a weak root system, so they can`t take enough water up in the dry season.

Have to say it sounds just like what happened to some of my brugs this year. Kell, check down at the soil level and see if the trunk of the brug is soft or showing the beginning of some rot. Mushy is a good description of what my brugs were like. You might have to scratch the surface of the trunk to really be able to tell. If it is, Cala had a name for it. Some kind of fungus. Amazingly enough, I was able to save my pink beauty by just cutting the bad stalk off. So far so good. Just a thought anyway.

Bad Kelley....killing your Daturas!!!!

kell, Have you been singing out in the Datura patch? Just a thought. LOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Sometimes the Datura do this and I have no idea why. Usually if you just cut them down to the ground, they will resprout and take off again. I water mine the same amount as any other plant in my gardens and they do fine.
