Dr.D's first day

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

This is the first bloom from Eric's Dr.D. It's just starting to get the faintest bit of color on the edges. I plucked the anthers out last night so I could save the pollen.... and I pollinated him with an unknown pink that just opened too. I'll post a pic of that one next. I'm so happy to finally have some blooms :]

Poppysue, It will turn darker. It's really a beautiful color and is a great mother plant and pollen donor too.Congratulations!!!!!

Is the unknown pink a suaveolens, verisicolor, aurea type? I'd like to see this one crossed to a suaveolens x aurea type personally. But the here recently I have seen such wonderful pictures posted by Bward that I may have to rethink all of my crosses.

This is the pink http://davesgarden.com/s/332532.html I put Dr.D pollen on it & visa versa. I don't have a lot to work with here - LOL.

Okay put that in to show its opposite...ie Ecuador pink x Dr.Sues versus Dr.Sues x Ecuador pink. Poppy, your hyperlink is definitly a hybrid with lots of suaveolens in the genes, but I have to confess some hybrids change a bit in color and I have to id based on seedpods and flower or else leaf and flower. Of course calyx is a good giveaway for some.

Well - if the cross takes I'll be pleased with myself. The leaves on the pink are smooth - no teeth. I'm trying to remember which it is or who it came from. I think it possibly came from tiG as an un-named that she got from you. I went out and got a couple more pics before dark. The dr is starting to take on some color. I've fiddled with him so much I;m surprised he hasn't fallen off the plant.
