I can't believe it

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Well, it happened again. I was just out in the yard getting ready to fertilize my brugs. when I heard
something russeling in one of them. Thinking it was a squirret I went over and made some noice to make him go away. Well it wasn't a squirrel. A large branch had just broken off the main plant just like last week.
The only thing I can figure is that they are so top heavy and we have had wind all summer. Has anyone else had this problem. I think I am going to have to start staking them.

I staked some of mine. Some because they were so tall, but when we had a storm the other day, some were almost bending in half, and I was out in that mess staking them!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I had the squirrels using mine as a jungle gym one year, that made me move them away from the house. They were using the brugs to jump to the bird feeders

It saved the brugs, but not the feeders...they learned how to climb the screens...

I have the ones with thinner trunks staked. The squirrels clammer around in the pots and plant acorns and peanut.

Oh that is a shame! Was it laden with blooms?
