WANTED :Tree Peony Seeds/seedlings

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I have lots of things to trade for these. Also would like single peonies, you can see my trade list at my website http://pages.zdnet.com/lakreflect/lakesidereflections/ I know they are hard to come by but I've heard they do reseed themselves and I'm dying to try one.I've seen them in catalogs but they seem so expensive,I'd like to see if I can grow one before I spend big bucks on one. Thanks, crestedchik

Thanks so much,I hope she has some .I really want to try this ,they are so pretty. My mailcarrier bought one about 5 years ago at Walmart ,( I've never seen any for sale locally),it finally bloomed for her last summer. At the time ,it never even occoured to me to try to get some seed from her.I didn't know it could be started from seed,This year I will be a little smarter. Thanks again for posting!

My mom bought a tree peonie in terrible condition on a clearance rack last Mothers day for $2. we never found the time to put it in the ground, & we thought that it had died and emptied the pot into the compost bin then threw leaves on top of it last fall. I went over to help turn the compost We discovered that it had new buds on it so we planted it this past Sunday when I was planting the standard peonies that I gave her for this Mother's Day. I cann't wait to see what happens next. If it produces seeds these are the ones that you want, super hardy!!!

As a challenge this year, I have started both peonis and tree peonies from seed. This is definitely a long range project!! Both peonies and tree peonies can take from 6 weeks to a year to germinate. The first year you might not even see a crown, the root is forming. The second year you will see a crown and then it will require another 3 years to bloom. A total of 5 years!! Patience is required. I am germinating the seed in plastic bags and when a root is about 1/2 inch I transfer it to potting mix in a 4 inch peat pot to grow on. This will be it's home for the first year and then it can be planted directly into the ground without disturbing the roots. I started germination on 20 Jan. and as off today about 50% have germinated. I found the peony seed through a suppler in Minnesota or Wisconsin. I will have to hunt for the name and address. THe tree peony seed came to me from Plants of Distinction in England via Canada and then through their US company (Seeds of Distinction), Their US rep hand carried them back to the US for me. A long term project....but where else do I have the possibility of getting 24 tree peonies for $8.00?

Ya know,I have the catalog, and I never even saw that seed listed! I'm going to order some seed.Does anyone know how to root them?I know they are grafted, but grafted on what?My husband bought me one for Mothers day.$30.00!!!!,and not even a bud on it.But he loves me and I'm worth it, lol.I bid on one on ebay and I got it for 20.50 plus shipping.I'm sending the money out today.I'm just soooo impatient.Gotta have it now!!!
