Look what was waiting for me this morning! My very first water lily. What a beautiful one too! THANK YOU!!!!
Hey tiG, Hey tiG!!!
Sure is pretty!!!!!
sue
Wow that is pretty.
I guess that bud that was on there didn't ever bloom??? did this have leaves? I wanted you to be covered up by now!!!! but it sure is a pretty. and it couldn't have bloomed for a nicer person:)
This is the bud that was there when you sent it. There is a second quickly coming up behind it. I think it is beautiful!! Thank you again!
Whoops! Forgot to say it does have leaves but they are floating just outside the picture frame. The fish have eaten a few of the leaves but they are there. :)
oh okay!! I hope they all bloom for you this season. love you!
Oh I hope they all bloom too! If not though, I'll have something to look forward to next year. Thanks a bunch! Love you too. :)
Don't'cha love the first blooms!!!Its a beauty!
Thanks guys, but the credit goes to tiG. All I did was plant it! LOL I do have a question though. Do the blooms close at night? We just got a major storm that knocked our electric out for close to three hours. I was just going to show the flower to my hubby and there is nothing there but a bud. I looked in a book but it only said tropicals close at night. The sun is shining again so maybe it will be there in a bit. LOL
All my hardys close at nite....
mine too...it will be back tomorrow Badseed...I have one that color blooming right now too...Yours is beautiful..Don't you love em...
yep, they close. and when the flower starts sinking after about 3-5 days, reach down and pinch it off as low on the stem as you can.
Very pretty!! Can you get close enough to sniff?? Sometimes they smell pretty also. MaMa "T" :)
Thanks a bunch for the info. I was a little worried they were like daylilies and only lasted a day. LOL Thanks to tiG and Vic and Gv I should have more coming along. :)
We are just getting our little pond finished. How are you growing these water lilies> I mean are they in pots, how big of pots, growing medium used etc.???
good waterlily pots are those new oil pans you can get cheap. wide is better than deep. make sure you don't cover the crown or it won't bloom, and use unamended clay, no need for special water plant soil.
and don't use peat based potting soil...it floats. The heavyer soil the better.I sprinkle gravel on the top to keep the soil in
Thanks for the info.I have lots of heavy clay soil and a couple plastic bedpans that my sister gets at the hospital that should work fine for this.
yep!!! sounds good. put the cut side of tuber up next to the side. and make sure that crown isn't covered:)
Hey tiG, the second bud is up today!! Wooo Hooo. I guess it just wanted to settle in before it bloomed. It is looking pretty happy, but you sent such nice plants. :)
aw, I had hoped so:) if you feed them, they will bloom!!
First bloom is gone and the second has taken it's place. I think I could really get into this water gardening! LOL
Badseed,
Aren't the water lily blooms great. Mine is closed up by 2:30. Tomorrow will be day 3 for ours.. hope it lives longer. You are lucky to already have another one. I don't see another one on ours so far. Your pond is sure neat & with the lilies I'm sure it is even neater.
Sugar
Hi Sugar, thank you for the compliments. I was dying for a water garden and it was the cheapest way I could come up with to do it for now. It is more sweat equity than anything. :)
Oh and I was wrong. The first flower is still blooming. I didn't see the second bud and thought the first was gone. So, maybe I will have two at a time for a day. LOL I had an unfair advantage. It had a bud on it when tiG sent it. She rocks!!
how bout a new picture of the whole pond???
Believe it or not, I just did! LOL The sun is too bright though. I will have to go back out when it the sun goes down a bit. ;)
The THIRD flower popped up today!!!!! Wooo hooooo!!!
it makes me laugh to see you so happy!! cool
You sent a happy plant! It laughs flowers. :)
