One author of a brug book stated that seeds can be taken from a brug with a virus and the seed does not transmit the virus. My question-since it is the sap that carries the virus, can the pollen be used from a plant that has a virus without infecting the recipient brug if used in pollinating?
Virus question
Bward..I would imagine that since no sap is involved in the pollen transfer to the seed parent that it would be OK...Monika..am I correct on this one?
Kyle, which would be my thought. The Preissel's indicated that seeds can be used from a diseased plant. Thought there might be a distinction, since the seeds are dried and the virus dies. Monika--do you know the answer to this????
You are correct, Kyle.
Barbara, there is something like a barrier between seed and virus infected plant. The Virus does not pass this barrier. Brugmansia seedlings are always free of Virus until a new infection takes place.
Monika,
Thank you. I always appreciate you sharing you knowledge.
