liner edges

I'm getting real close to putting the liner in my water garden. Not sure how to deal with the edges. I have a shelf dug out all around, where I'll put rocks, but wondering......do I put a row of rocks around, then fold the liner back over them and add another layer of rock? And if I don't have enough rocks on hand to cover all the liner right away, will the sun have an adverse affect on the liner? Do I need to wait until I have enough rocks before I put the liner in?

I have rock lining my pond, and the way I did it, was in 2 layers. I dug a 2inch "shelf" to put the rocks on, set the rocks in the pond and wrapped the liner from underneath the rock to the top of the rock. Then I set another layer of rock on top of that to hide the liner. If this doesn't make sense, email me and I can send you a pic. I have received lots of compliments about how natural it looks, and if I do say so myself, I just love my ponds!

It makes sense. That's basically what I was planning on doing. But MY shelf is about 10 inches deep! It's gonna take a LOT of rocks. Will it hurt liner to be exposed to sun while I collect rocks?

That all depends on how long you take to collect the rocks! LOL
We got our rocks from a river that is about an hour away from here. It took us all summer to get enough rocks. I wanted the BIG flat ones and it took us forever to haul them up a 20 ft. cliff.
It will also depend on what mil. liner you got. We have the 45 mil. EPMD and it did just fine exposed for a 3 month period.
I would dig another "mini shelf" to put the rocks on. That would be really difficult to get enough rock to fill a 10 inch shelf. Do you have enough over hang on your liner to do that?
Or, you could put the rock on the liner on the ground, just above the shelf, put another row of rocks behind that to hide the liner where you fliped it over. Then a large rock on top that covers both rows of rock. One side of my pond is like that because we were getting run off every time that it rained and dirt was getting in the pond.
What size is your pond?

During a recent rejigging of a waterfall for a friend I did pretty much the same as Toadlily but also dug a small self and covered the rest of the liner with soil and planted through it.
