Arborea.looking bad.

I would like to send my Arborea to one of you that gets cooler weather then here. The Arborea is not doing good and I'm afraid if I keep it any longer it will die in our heat. I'll mail the rooted end and keep a few of the cuttings. Y'all decide who I should send it to.

Hamilton, Canada

Cala, Brugcrazy, CC or Liz have greenhouses they use over the winter.

Joydie,
Can't send to Canada without proper paper work.

Hamilton, Canada

Cala, CC or Snowhermit...I just saw that Snow has a greenhouse also.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Why would it require a greenhouse?

Glory,

Does snow have an arborea yet? I have 2 and Liz has 2 and anyway, you can't send them here. Snow grows some gorgeous brugs, I'm sure she'd keep it alive.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I've got an arborea, it's holding it's own, it even has a Y. I vote to send it to CC or Snow.

Snow or CC,
Does one of you want it? LMK

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

If they don't want it, you might ask Kell(you know, the sorry person who grows 30' sangs!!!)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

guys, i do know that snow is looking for one. her DH is on vacation, must have gone ona weekender.

Ok,
I'll send that to Snow and the cuttings off of it to Shirley if she is still looking. I'm sure they will read this is a day or so.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm still available to baby sit with the cuttings Gloria. Thanks. Hope I can get them to grow up here. We are really cold now for this time of the year. 47 tonight and only mid 70's for a few days. Not complaining though.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Miss Brugie, that sounds wonderful. i've been proud to dip in the high 50s lately.
i have to say this very softly, kell's famous 30 foot sang is rooting for me! now, if i leave it right where it is til november, maybe it'll be okay for a while.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie, I saw that on the national weather!! I bet it feels really good after all the heat you've had. I took a few cuttings off of my arborea the other day. It was looking really good, but I accidentally left it in the Jungle House and it got crowded by another plant. I brought it outside and it's looking better. It had Y'd and there were the remains of one bloom, can't believe I missed it.

Oh My to have one day in the 70's would be heaven...guess I'll have to wait until mid Oct. for that...if then.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, my sang is finally getting nubbies so I think I'll be able to get it to grow. Just won't be able to show Kell any pictures of it because she would probably laugh at me.

Cala, I'm happy to have cool temps for a while. Just wish we had them when the brugs were blooming so I could have done more with better pollen. At least I have pods, and that makes me happy. Glad your arborea is doing better.

Gloria, in mid October we have had a frost and all the clean-up has to be done. Not looking forward to that at all.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's a lot cooler here now, probably in the 60's. When all my brugs were in full bloom it was blazing hot. I noticed today that all the pods fell off L'Amour and some other varieties. Oh well, there's next flush of flowers.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

We have a cool greenhouse at work...stays cool .not cold all winter....about 65...if you want to try that..Just a thought. :-)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Dang,I miss everything!

Arborea Update:

I don't think this plant is going to make it. I just checked it and the bottom is starting to turn mushy....looks like the best thing to do with it is to toss it....I'm so sorry Snow and Brugie....maybe you can get one elsewhere.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Isn't Arborea one of the few that will mix with sangs?

Yes it is Kell. You can cross the arborea to a sang to make a flava.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

that is what I thought..............gee I was not johnny on that stick!!! but Cala was......thanks Cala........ my new best friend! then of course that stick died. so sad. sorry glory!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Glory, that is what happened to 4 of my brugs this summer. Just out of no where, they started looking a little droopy and then they were gone. Stem at soil line was mushy. I was able to get cuttings started for Creamsickle and Pink Beauty, but the others are gone. I had a duplicate of the C. Double White, so no problem there and actually don't even remember now what the other one was.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Glory, why don't you try taking a few cuttings. It might surprise you. I think Cala said it was some kind of fungus. The cuttings I have from my infected brugs are very healthy.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Yes ,please try to preserve it!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Glory, use a fungicide with Daconil in it. It's not expensive and worth a try. I took cuttings from my arborea the other day. I'll keep you posted. The last ones I tried didn't root, but rotted. Keep your fingers crossed for these.

Cala,
I cut the canes back and there is a hole all the way through it. I will keep the root in the container and see what happens. I believe I will bring it in the house and keep it cool.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

that's what happened to my Ocre. :(

I really feel bad after offering this plant to people but there is no sense in spreading what ever is wrong with this plant to other plants.
Didn't Eric say his Arborea dies down to the ground in the summer?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Are they really hard to root? Is that why we can't find any?

CC,
I don't know...I got this one from Rich Sander and it was already rooted.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Arlene, you were right. I was taken away on a spur of the moment last minute camping overnighter. LOL. Thanks for thinking of me in my absence. Glory, so sorry you lost your plant.Don't feel bad about offering it. You did your best to give it a chance but it just didn't cooperate with you.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

My Arborea is also suffering from the heat and humidity. It is alive but I doubt I will ever see it bloom.I keep it in full shade.I had two but the sun killed the other earlier.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I guess I should move mine into some more shade. It's doing better than it was in the jungle house though.

Here is a picture of my Arborea that was blooming back in April....the weather was much cooler here then.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

SOOO gorgeous!

OK where do I buy one of those suckers????

Gloria, did the seedpod ever take with the sanguinea pollen?

Jeanne,
I didn't get the chance to use it...anyone got Arboreas that might need some Sang. pollen? I also received some from Kelley.

Well Gloria, I've got some arborea pollen coming in the mail as mine hasn't flowered yet but does have sub equal leaves so it shouldn't be long. I'll cross the arborea to 3 different sangs so with any luck I'll have some nice flava seeds.
